Average price of your china
For those of you who registered for china (the plates, not the country!!
)......what was your average price per setting (5 piece setting)? I registered for ours and it's $69.99/setting.....is this really expensive and too much to ask? I found some that I liked that were $90/setting, so I thought this was reasonable. We have a large family and I would eventually like to do Turkey Day or Hannukah/Christmas at our house, so I registered for 12 settings---again....is this too much to ask??? Nobody in my immediate family was sure on the etiquette for china b/c I'm the first (and only) to get married in the last 20 years....so I figured I'd ask you all.
TIA!!!

Re: Average price of your china
I registered for 12 settings. We both have big families. My MIL insisted on buying the entire set for us.. super generous of her. We still have to add because just the immediate family is 18!! I think 12 is a safe number to register for.
Oh.. It cost around $90 a place setting.

Re: Average price of your china
i think you're fine...my place settings are $80. 12 is defintiely not too much, if you have a holiday at your house, you definitely want enough china for everyone.

Re: Average price of your china
WOW....what a great MIL!!! Thanks for the input. I also thought about 18 settings, but thought that was DEFINITELY pushing it a bit.....
We'll see what happens with the registry....maybe the family will realize we have many mouths to feed and buy extra.

I think mine was around 80 when we registered. But it has since gone down to 70. I registered for it a Fortunoff's and they sometimes have a certain pattern on sale or a promotion with each place setting.

Re: Average price of your china
No, it's not too much at all. The place setting I registered for is $119. But I have a really small family (so does he) nor am I the world's greatest cook so I'm only asking for 6 place settings. If I find I need more I'll get them myself.

Re: Average price of your china
Mine is $99 a place setting and I registered for 12. I already received half my china from my aunts. I think it's fine to register for them, people may want to buy you one setting, rather than giving you the money. It's a nice gift to purchase for someone becuase it's the amount I would probably spend on a shower gift.

Re: Average price of your china
mine were $109 a setting i believe? and we registered for 12.. and if we don't get them.. we'll more then likely change our minds and get less expensive ones even tho FH and i both fell in love with that set.

Re: Average price of your china
We did not register as we are inheriting family china but one tip a friend gave me was to consider registering for an extra setting or two. Things break, patterns get dicontinued and if you love love love your china -- always good to have an extra setting or two. ie My sister registered for 14.

Re: Average price of your china
I think mine was about $90 and I registered for 12 place settings. I think that is pretty 'typical' so, I wouldn't fret!

Re: Average price of your china
We registered for two...one for the jewish holidays and one for regular, and both were insanely expensive, one was 109 a setting and one was 129 a setting (mine was the more expensive one, I let FH pick the other one out
) We already got two place settings that FH picked out, but I don't know if we're going to get anymore. We're going to wait for the shower, if we don't get anything, we'll just return them and buy ourselves a cheaper one...

Re: Average price of your china
we registered for 12 settings that are 109.00 a piece...there are other items that go with it and they range from 69.00 to 250.00, coffe pots, platters, cake stands, etc. pretty standard cost and amount.

Re: Average price of your china
Our was about $69 but fortunoff's had all kinds of sales on them. At one point it was a free soup bowl, accent plate and charger. Fmil bought them all and I cant wait for my first holiday so she can tell everyone that she bought them and hear the story of how many times she had to go back and forth while we are eating dinner.

Re: Average price of your china
thats not too bad...ive seen more expensive settings. I decided not to go with formal china..i know well never use it and there are so many other things we need for a house that I didnt want people to waste money on china. I did go for casual china though...not too expensive..not sure how much a setting is..probably adds up to around your price or less.Welcome New Vendors
