So I love babies/children and can't wait for the day to come that I will have my own....but I do not want them at my wedding.
How are you ladies handling this situation? My ceremony is at my RH so there is no allowing them to come to the ceremony and not to the RH.
I don't have many people in my family that have babies/children and of the two that do have infants, one of them will be very understanding but the other I am not so sure.
Are you ladies telling those people no or are you including a little blurb about it in your invitation?
If you are including it in your inviation...how are you wording it?

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
We are not inviting children. As much as I WANTED to put 'Adult Reception to Follow' on the invitation, my mother thought against it. So we're letting guests know by word of mouth. If you are unsure how your guests will handle it, have a family member let them know. I am letting FMIL handle FH's side, and my mother handle our side.
Our RH is a hotel, so I suggested to OOT guests with children that they rent a room out for the night and get a babysitter . I'm okay with kids being there in the hotel, just not in the ballroom.

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
You could fill out the RSVP cards for those with kids by filling in the blank with '2' where it says # attending.
Another good way is word of mouth, like another poster suggested.

I understand why some people might not want them there.. I will be having them there and a 2 month old infant as well.. I have 2 kids and my nieces and 3 of my friends kids.. I just enjoy the little ones dancing their tushes off =)

I am having children that are related to me but don't want other people's children...hoping to spread this by word of mouth.
A few weeks ago FH's groomsman's wife who is 7 months pregnant said something to me about the baby at the wedding and i was like 'whoa babies aren't invited to the wedding' and she was like 'well then we won't come' can you believe that??? we couldn't care less if she comes or not but I know FH would be really upset if his friend couldn't make it. Both their parents live in the area, why can't they leave the baby with them for 1 night??? And if she insists on staying home with the baby, her husband can't leave her side for one night to attend his best friend's wedding?
Hehe sorry for the mini vent, the whole situation just made me so mad!

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
The only child I am having at our wedding is the ring bearer. On the invite envelope only put the names of those invited. It is proper ettiquete that if your name is not on the envelope you are not invited. Children included.

And that's awesome for you and if I had kids I would do that same.
It's a tough subject to approach. I have to think about the 'Adult Only Reception' because sometimes people still don't listen to 'word of mouth'.

FH has relatives that are KNOWN to bring their kids (ages 3 and 6) to weddings even though they know they're not invited. Nice, right? I told FH that my mom will FLIP if they show up with their kids!!!! Aside from that, there won't be any seats for them at the table!

HAHAHA....I would feel the same way! Find someone to babysit!
Honestly, if it were me being invited to a wedding and I had an infant I would NEVER even think about bringing the baby with me.

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
I lost this battle, and we're having children on FH's side. On my side, since I have control over it, I'm just inviting the adult cousins, and since I'm having personalized RSVPs, it will say 2 seats are reserved. I'm a little concerned though, because two of FH's friends are expecting babies within the next few months, and for cultural reasons I think they may bring them, so he's already been instructed to say no newborns!

Presumably...the infant will only be a few months old and the Mom may not feel comfortable leaving the baby yet? I don't have children yet but I can't see myself being comfortable just handing my newborn to a babysitter for a some wedding. JMO- my child's wellbeing vs. someone's wedding. No contest.

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
I'm not having children, but many of my friends are in the stage of having their 1st baby or pregnant. If the baby is at least 6 months, they are fine w/having a baby sitter, but keep in mind many people breastfeed up to 1 year and can't leave a child that long, or don't want to leave an infant w/ a non relative. An infant shouldn't cause too much of a problem, they certainly wont be 150 a plate LOL

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
wow! looks like I sparked up a lot of feelings with this topic.
My feeling towards babies is the crying factor....especially during the ceremony.
As for children ages 3 and up...they are cute and I wouldn't have a problem with it.
My thing is...the people in my family that have children, those children are/will be infants at the time of the wedding.

Hearing stories like this make me SO MAD w t f is wrong with ppl??? thats just rude. If you want kids at your wedding fine, but if you made it clear that thats not the case, to suggest that they bring their INFANT to your wedding is absurd. Why she would even want to drag a newborn along with her i dont understand. I mean, i get not wanting to leave your brand new baby with anyone, but so then stay home.
We did not want children at our wedding and we basically got strong armed by FH's mom about having her 2 nieces kids there that will be coming in from out of town. We were totally p*ssed off about the way it was handled - she has basically led these children to believe since we got engaged a year ago that they would be invited when she KNEW this was not the case. We decided to just suck it up and let them come to make his mom happy, which neither of us were happy about. we made it clear after that point that by no means were any other children from our families - and there are a lot - going to be invited.
That said, I would like to think that you can just address it to whom you want there, but since it seems like a lot of ppl have a giant set of b@lls, maybe fill in the number of ppl attending for them? or go ahead and put 'adult reception to follow'. Some ppl think doing that is distasteful, but guess what - so is toting around your uninvited children!! (not to mention tactless).
PHEW! mini vent anyone??

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
I know I wont even notice if they are there or not. I left it up to the parents...I have a large wedding party with 2 flower girls and 2 ring bearers plus tons of OOT guests. I am not going to tell them they can't bring there kids. They wouldn't bother coming then. I def wouldn't put it on an invite. If you feel that strong then I would call each person up and explain your reasoning.

Re: Babies/Children at your wedding...
After going back forth I decided no kids and that will include about 8 nieces and nephews under 14 - Just cant do it - I told people word of mouth and just put the people who are invited on the invite if someone puts 3 attending and I on;ly invited 2 - Then they will be getting a phone call - My wedding is over at 1:00 so kids would be crazy at that point just cant deal
