My soon to be mother-in-law recently terrified me by making a crack about my brother-in-law's little baby screaming in the middle of the vows, and I realized we have several babies actually coming to the wedding with their parents... since then I've noticed stuff on the internet about hiring a babysitter. Has anyone else done this? More importantly, whether you have or not, if you have a babysitter to recommend to watch young children during our ceremony, that would be great! I don't live in Long Island so I have no idea where to begin. Screaming babies during the vows really scares me, but it would also give the mothers a bit of time to relax during the cocktail hour, etc. Advice?

Re: Babysitter for Wedding?
I think hiring a babysitter for your wedding is an excellent idea.
Try asking family members and friends to see who they could suggest.
You could also talk to your RH and see if they have someone on staff that you can pay a little extra to do this. It may be a long shot but worth a try.

Re: Babysitter for Wedding?
i have 6 kids ranging in ages 2 to 10 in my bridal party- and they'll be the only kids at the wedding but i wanted to give their parents some down time- so I'm hiring 2 babysitters to watch the kids - I asked my 2 sister in laws who they used so i went by word of mouth- thats what i suggest.... ask family members that already live here- maybe they have someone they trust and that the baby already knows....
and my plan is to make the kids gift bags and put them in the bridal suite and at cocktail hour tell them all to go get their gifts- and then the babysitter can watch them in there til dinner time- so thats like 2 hours of free time for the parents.

Its a great idea but IMO - I am already spending a ton of money here they are on their own - hire a sitter...

Re: Babysitter for Wedding?
I think it would be nice to hire a babysitter, but I'd check with the parents first if they would be comfortable with it.
I AM a babysitter; I have quite a few years experience watching children ages 3 months & up. However, I see that you're wedding date is July 12, 2009, which is the day of my E-party. If that's not the real date though by any chance, FM me!

I'm thinking of hiring one, b/c the only small children that will be there are family.

Re: Babysitter for Wedding?
It's a great idea coming from someone who got stuck being the unofficial sitter since she was 'good with kids' ;) I say go for it!

Re: Babysitter for Wedding?
I'm hiring a babysitter for my wedding. I'm not having children under 16 at all at my wedding unless they are in the wedding. I checked with the hotel and what we are going to do is put all of the kids in one of the hotel rooms and order food to be brought in for them. We are also organizing movie night and we have a WIII set up for them. My FMIL is getting someone she knows to come and watch them

Re: Babysitter for Wedding?
Thanks for your help! I will check babysitter websites- but I'd love one referred to me. I don't know *anyone* in Long Island, except brides on LIW and my vendors - It's merely where I'm getting married, I live in Manhattan and honestly I don't know anyone here competent enough to babysit except close friends already coming to the wedding. So if anyone knows anyone who they can recommend, that would be great- feel free to FM or reply. My wedding date is indeed July 12.
