Back from our Tasting-Long

So we are back from the Milleridge and all I can say is OH MY GOD!!!! I am so full right now. Good thing my fitting was this morning

Everything was delicious. We tasted about 5 appetizers for the cocktail hour (clams, scallops in bacon, brochettes of chicken and beef, shrimp in ale batter, and baby lamb chops)
The clams were a little 'bready' but everyhting else was great.

We then had dinner aps of asparagas dijonaise, fruit plate in strawberry sauce, and Crepe Florentine
I didn't like the crepe florentine. Too much spinach for me and the cheese they used to top it had a strong odor. I don't eat asparagus but my my mom said it was really good. The fruit plate was yummy but what wouldn't be in strawberry sauce?

On to the main course
Chicken florentine was well prepared and the sauce was like a creamy mushroom and it was good. Chateaubriand bordelaise-fantastic and the sauce was out of this world. And I am not a real steak lover. Salmon with Hollandaise sauce. Out of this world. Again the sauce was terrific and gave the salmon a really good flavor.

SO now that we were full it was time to negotiate. We told Debbie about our issue of not meeting our minimum and what they offered us was if we did the 3 star menu we could drop our minimum to 165.

Since we were toying with the idea of doing the 3 star anyway this is the way we are going to go (although I think the 2 star would have been more than enough food) It will still cost us a little more but at least I know we won't be paying for plates that nobody is going to eat!

We picked our cake. Basket weave look (which I love) and chocolate with a chocolate mousse filling. YUMMY!!!!

SO all in all we are very happy. 27 days seems like too many to wait!

Let me know if anyone has questions

Jen

Re: Back from our Tasting-Long

Jen, I'm so glad everything went well! I was thinking of you this morning (re: your fitting).
How was your fitting? Do you have any pics?
27 days will just fly by...you must be so excited now!

Reading this post has made me HUNGRY!
I love the basket weave design for wedding cakes - it's so classic - and double chocolate - that rules! We are chocolate lovers too! Our cake was devil's food chocolate with chocolate raspberry mousse and raspberry butter cream.

Re: Back from our Tasting-Long

yummy yummy yummy! it was so good. i even ate the broccoli. they really came up big with lowering the minumum for the 3 star, which i think we are gonna go with. also substituted amstel light for the heineken. jen's mom was devouring the mini lamb chops which were good. jen said it was the most she has seen her eat in a long time so that was good.they give so much food, i hope we have time to eat some of it on our wedding day.

Re: Back from our Tasting-Long

Glad it worked out for you guys! I'm getting hungry just reading your post! Are you guys still looking for a tree type thing for your placecards? I was in a Hallmark store this weekend and they had this awesome metal 'family Tree' tree. It has all these branches on it and would be neat to hold placecards. YOu may need more than one thought. You can get it online. I thought of you guys when I saw it and figured I'd let you know!

Re: Back from our Tasting-Long

Oh god it is perfect!!!! I am going on to check it out now.

Doreen let me or Matt know if you have any specfic questions. Since you aren't doing a tasting you may want to think about how you will pick your cake. Maybe they can mail you color copies. If you need help let me know. I always love an excuse to go make a 'visit' there. And of course we will post a picture of the cake we got when we get back.

Re: Back from our Tasting-Long

Thanks for the offer to field questions! As far as our cake goes, I found a pic of what I want online and am going to bring it with me when I am home in December. I actually have already seen their book of cake pics, but Debbie told me if I had a pic they would work with me. So I'm able to stop in in NOvember when I am home to meet with them, but since they only do the tastings on the weekends, I can't swing it. Thanks!
