Back from the Interview

Back from the Interview

Let me tell you...I was sooo nervous. I dont know why. I tried not to show it though. I met with the manager and their was another woman at the desk next to us making calls to clients who was talking to me too...She seemed very nice as did the woman that was interviewing me.

The interviewer said she was interested in making me one of her agents, as long as I take the 45 hour class and the NY State exam and pass it.

She told me the benefits and the negatives of being a real estate agent and she also told me about all the fees you have to dish out at the beginning and that you have to renew your liscence each year....

It sounds good to me, the only thinkg I dont know about is all the cold calling and also she wants me to ring peoples door bells and ask them if they are interested in selling their homes. I used to hate that when people would come to my door and do that, and I used to hate to receive all those calls from real estate agents, but I guess it is part of the Field.

The classes sound interesting to me though. There are four different parts of the class and they are all on different topics. The agent I went to also offers a 12 hour training that is free, that they recommend going too.

So what do you think>? She told me to think about it, talk it over with Danielle and then let her know when I am ready.

Do you pay for the licensing course yourself?

It sounds like a very rewarding field.
If you really like it and feel confident about it, go for it.
It seems this is the way you want to go since you have been talking about it lately.
Good look.

Yes you pay for your liscencing. It is $285 a year. She said with everything out of pocket, start up fees should be $1000 with business cards, school, liscence and other stuff.

I would do this part time for now...She said it takes 3 to 6 months to actually make any money...So I wouldnt be able to afford to quit my job anyway....now...unfortunately....

This will also help out with Danielle and I buying a house in the future.

Re: Back from the Interview

To me, you know whether you are the aggressive salesperson type. It takes a lot of cahones to knock on doors and ask people to sell their house (and take a lot of doors slammed in your face). Also with the cold calling. That stuff is the most cr@ppy part of the job--lots of getting hung up on. My DH thought about it for a while, but I don't really think he is pushy enough to be a really successful salesman.

Re: Back from the Interview

Everything sounds great to me except the cold calling and the knocking on doors....I know I would probably slam the door on me or hang up on me if I was bothering someone to sell their house....

I dont know If I can do that.....

Well it sounds like you definitely have to pay your dues in the beginning but if you stick it out it can be worth your while. It might not be the dream job but if your heart is really in it I say go for it.

Maybe it's this particular agent that you have to do the cold calling with, I don't think it's all of them.
I know I couldn't do it, but you seem great for it, so go for it!

Re: Back from the Interview

I am thinking about interviewing with a few other realtors to see if it is all of them that require this.

We are suppose to do 50 cold calls a week, I have done 2. I will say that is the down side, BUT I came home from my FT job last week so fed up that I got on that phone and made those 2 calls. If you hate your job that much and you have had a bad day, take you smile to the phone and do your calls. We were given a script from our trainer. And yes, you have to dish out the $$$$$. And yes, it takes a few months before you bring in some $$$$.

I found another agent that is offering free school and they have an office right near my house I am going to go check out. I will call them after work to set something up.

I think that is a good idea. Maybe some don't , but the ones that do are easier to get started with, b/c not everyoen wants to work in that type of environment.

Also, since you are not quittign your other job right away, you coudl do it & see if it works out for you, but you have to be willing to lose the $1000 you put in up front.

Re: Back from the Interview

Yeah I know....I am so unhappy at my full time job...so the pressure is on for me now to find something.

Yesterday and today were both really bad days...I wish I could just quit. I know I cant do that but it would feel really good to do it.

I think that's a horrible way of marketing. Knock on people's doors....yuck! I would slam the door in your face. Sales is all about relationships...Scott, I know your miserable, but I know that there are other choices out there. Sales is hard and that's about the hardest of them all. It's very cut throat.

Give me some more ideas please lol....

Danielle wants me to go back to school. I would like to do that, but I remember from when I went to school before I wasnt really interested in school. I found something that interests me but its going to take so long to get my degree. Its for Computer Forensics. The program is called Security. Farmingdale University offers it.

I dont know what to do...I am sooo confused.

Re: Back from the Interview

Going to school is great if you can swing it. I'm going back to school also. But I know you can't just be without a job. You could find a local office of AT&T or T-Mobile and apply for a sales job. Not in the store but dealing with the corporate clients. Go on their website and apply for a job. They are always looking for smart people like you. That sales has a base salary plus commission. You could do well. My husband started out doing that. I'm sorry that I don't have a contact for you.
