Well, finally after I just made arrangements with the church and am about to finalize the date with my RH, I find out from a friend that my cousin is getting married on my date! So, I'm willing to change my date since he's had the date for a while now. . . . When should I make it? Does it matter if I do it the week before?? It was originally for June 21, 2008. . . . Any comments?

Re: Bad Date??
Personally, I definately wouldn't do it a week before (especially if they ahd the day in advance) and I wouldn't do it for atleast a month. My bro and I got engaged 2 months after each other. Our weddings are 8 months apart - this way everyone gets their own spotlight!

Yeah, I'm afraid that my family will choose one or the other to go to if they were so close. . . .. grrrrr i really wanted that day! lol And I thought this was going to be easy. . . .

I would wait at least a month after since they've had the date for a while. You don't want to have the family choosing one or the other.

I, too, would wait for a while (at least a month, but probably 2-3 months). Weddings and dates are a delicate subject.
I would *definitely* 100% not do it the week before.
Sorry! But your day will be beautiful no matter what!!!

I would do it atleast 1 month apart. I think 2 weddings within 1 week of each other are alot for people. Esppically cause they have to sppend so much. Cause then your showers will be close and the weddings too. It's alot for people.

Look into sometime in July, August, or September. I hope that we could help you out a little.

Re: Bad Date??
hmmm... i am not sure if that date has any special meaning to you...i am sorry you have to change. its very nice of you-and probably the right thing to do- i have heard of other brides refusing to give up their date no matter what! (and thats so not really the best option-too much negativity and troubles! )
i tried to find another 21st but there is none on a fri or sat in 08 besides that one...i think a sunday in december but thats way different than june.
if the 21 is important - you could do Feb 1st 08 so that would kinda be the 21 = 2/1/08 (but this is less than a year now so you'd have to get moving on booking. plus its not june-like either.
closer to your date and a month away from cousin's wedding could be may 24th ...ohhh that is memorial day weekend.. you can do 25th or 26th(mon) too.. or July 19th or 26th
a bit later - september 27th 08 9/27/08
Other popular dates for 2008 but you would have to get moving to book are 2/29/08, 08/08/08 and 06/07/08
any of these 'feel like the day' ?
good luck!

Re: Bad Date??
The date really doesn't have any meaning; we had just wanted it in June. Now the problem is that we come from a really Portuguese family and they all travel there in July and August. So, I'd have to push it to September. . . . I really don't want to move it up. Also, the RH we're set on will give us the top deck for CH and dessert so I want it to be warmish. . . .

Re: Bad Date??
ask the church(or ceremony site) and RH what dates are available and chose from there. We had to change our date and that's how we picked ours. It was completely unplanned. We just asked the RH if the week after was available and they said yes and we coordinatored it with the church.

Re: Bad Date??
that actually makes sense and so obvious. . . . haha cuz we're definatly sure of the church and rh we want. . . . that we're not budging on so I guess that would reduce some headache and extra thinking. . . . I think it just caught me by surprise bc I thought their wedding was THIS summer. . . . Thanks!

Re: Bad Date??
***** its on your date but I agree wih the other girls-Do it at least a month later if not a month before. If people have to travel out of town, i would almost give them 2-3 months because weddings are expnsive as we all know and even when FH and I have had to go to one wedding a month (which happened last summer) it was a HUGE financial strain on us.
If you want people to come and would like some kind of gift, I would definetly put it off 2-3 months. Just make life easier on everyone and yourself for those required minimums!

I would wait at least a month...unless you want to do it before them in May. Check to see what your church has and then make your decision........just a thought

Re: Bad Date??
I just realized that only a small handfull of guests (i have almost 400 invitees) would probably be invited to both parties since we are not first cousins but a lil more distant. . . . now is it ok to have it closer to their date? i'm being really stubborn

Re: Bad Date??
to be honest- i would still move the wedding at least 1 month after- or one month before- maybe that the last week in may? personally, if I was your cousin's wife and found out a member of the family had planned a wedding close to mine, i would be really upset- it puts strain on some of your guests.
