I think everyone who shows up to the wedding to spend the day with you should get a thank you. If they send the gift later just send another thanking for the gift.

I agree. That was my point... I was saying send TYs out immediately (within a month or so if you can). If you didn't get a gift from someone, perhaps wait another month before sending them their thank you. If they send a gift after that, then another thank you is appropriate.

almost impossible for a wedding to send it out in a month. it takes over 6 weeks to get proofs, then choose the picture, then have it developed and mailed, then write all the cards, then mail them. so it can be at least 5 months before you CAN send them.

to the original post--i think it's even ruder to ask for a thank you. if they didn't send it, they didn't send it. or it may have gotten lost in the mail (happened to one of ours).

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I was confusing. I think I meant to say 'i'm hoping to' instead of 'you should...' My point is that I might wait longer to send thank yous to people who hadn't yet sent a gift to give them time if they were to send a gift, but I would ultimately send everyone a thank you whether or not they gave a gift.

I'm not doing a photo thank you so I'm on a different (and admittedly extremely optomistic) time frame. (And I've never even received one, and I've been to a lot of weddings) I'm having engraved cards printed for our with Mr. and Mrs. Todd XXXX that match our invites. I'll actually have the TY cards when I get my invitations.

5 months or so makes perfect sense for people doing photo thank yous of course (and doesn't mean I'm PO'd when people don't send TYs out within a few weeks... However, if you wait 9 months, that's overkill...)

Sorry the confusion... I need to remember that not everyone can read my mind!

I would just wonder if in fact they received your gift. If it was a check and it's been cashed, or if it was cash in an envelope, then there is nothing to do.

If it was a physical gift, you may want to ask the bride or groom's mom if they know if it was received so you could track it. But that's a judgement call, depending on how well you know them and can do it tactfully.

I just find it hard to say its that hard to write out a thank you. I mean its thank you lovely to see you or too bad we couldn't see you but we appreciate the gift blah blah sign blah blah.. address stamp and send.

I write thank you's out for everything evne its a little stupid gift card for $5 that my cousin sent me. I get annoyed at that crap.

I am sorry to hear this is happening to much lately. parents didn't raise their children correctly it seems.

I have to agree. It's really not that difficult.

that is pretty rude. Has she ever mentioned writing them? What if it just got lost in the mail? Unless she's just really REALLY late.

I wouldn't say anything but I think it's terribly rude.

Re: bad etiquette

My girlfriend got married in December and she did not send out her TY for awhile. Sometimes it takes awhile from the photographer to get the TY or the person might just be procrastinating! As long as you get one that is what matters to me!

I think that is rude. I went to a wedding 5 months ago and I think it is rude that we still did not receive a thank you. I guess I expectt to much. I did not know the correct etiquette is up t a year. That's just ridiculous if you ask me.

Honestly who cares. I mean if people forget to send thank you so what... Life happens, things happen.. and some people might be a little lazy. But if they were your good friend, you shouldnt need a thank you for you to know they appreciated that you were there. All of this wedding crap there are no rules.. Things are done differently with every bride.. Dont hold anyone to some made up rule that a no body probably made.
