bagpipers?

bagpipers?

anyone have bagpipers?

and if so, when did you have them play?

1. before the ceremony (which means I'll miss it because I won't be at the church yet)
2. after the ceremony/mass when people are milling on the steps of the church

OR

3. At the reception hall

I'm not sure, but I'm leaning more toward after the mass is over, that way we can enjoy it as we're coming out of the church.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Wehave 5 pipers at our wedding-they played during our reception as it was a surprise from my FIL. Everyone loved it and really-had we had it at the church we wouldnt have really enjoyed it b/c we were in and out of limos and then in and out of the church.

It is up to you-weigh your feelings on it

ETA:Nassau County Pipes & Drums and it was 4 pipes and a drummer

I just booked MINE!!! This is a SURPRISE for FH so SHHHHHHH everyone.

The lovely VETBRIDE provided me with an Emerald Society contact, Andy is AWESOME.... I'm having 2 pipers and a bodhran (irish drum) player... but we're doing something a little different, we're having them meet FH at my aunt's house where he's getting ready, and WALKING HIM AND HIS BRIDAL PARTY (GMs, BMs, and our 2 dads) to the church!! We live in queens so it's about a 2 block walk and I think he'll really love it. They'll play outside as guests arrive and after the mass as we take pix and guests depart for the reception...

Oh, Plan B for bad weather will be to just have them outside the church as guests arrive & after the mass... but i'm hoping they get to do the WALK!!!!

FH plays the bagpipes so it was a must have at our wedding
we are having 3 bagpipers (that play in a band with FH) playing AFTER mass, like as everyone leaves. I'm not crazy about them so that's the only time we're having them played

I wouldn't worry about missing it because you really won't.
We had one bagpiper. He played a bit before I arrived and then played alot when I got there.

He also played when DH arrived.

He also played after mass and waited until after we exited the church. You could hear him while we were in the church.

He was really great. On tiem and professional! People told me they could hear it for blocks! It was so beautiful!

I had people from all over staring at us!!

I used Kevin Connelly. He is a vendor on this site. If you want more info FM me!!!

Re: bagpipers?

well my husband plays in a bag pipe band so we had them a few times. I had jut 2 play outside the church as guests entered the church and then after the church they also played as guests waited for us to exit. Then at the reception they played after the bestman speach. this time the whole band played. It was amazing I still have people talking about it.

I used Tim Grant www.pipetutor.com an LIW vendor. he was great & this is what he had to say about the songs, HTH:
'The thing with bagpipe tunes that you may not realize is that individually, they are short. That is why we play many of them in a row. After everyone has exited the church, I will probably have played 15-20 different songs.'
Go here to listen to songs http://www.scotiapipers.co.uk/ He payed 'Highland Cathedral & Mharis Wedding' and 'Amazing Grace' during the unity candle lighting. My mom & I cried. It was beautiful & Tim's a riot!

Re: bagpipers?

thanks ladies for all your help!

my uncle works for the MTA and one of his buddies is going to play for us. He's going to do 15 minutes before the ceremony while the guests are arriving, and then play another set when we are leaving the church...i can't wait, especially after seeing all of your wonderful pictures. thank you!!!!
