Bagpipes & Timing at Reception

For those of you that are using bagpipes at the reception - what time are you planning on having them start. We're going with 2 pipers and a drummer. Not sure before or after dinner. Any ideas/thoughts?

Re: Bagpipes & Timing at Reception

We had the nypd pipes and drums at our reception. There were 6 overall. We had dinner first, then about 3 dance songs (enough time for people to go to the bathroom after dinner, smoke outside, etc.) and then had them announced. The timing seemed perfect and those who werent back from where they were, hurried in as soon as they heard them playing.

We had 2 bagpipers and we scheduled them at the time the hall suggested which was 15 minutes before the dinner was served. Then we went right into dinner. it workd out really well.

Re: Bagpipes & Timing at Reception

OK. So one slightly before and one slightly after. Can I get a tie breaker.

My thoughts on before was that people will get all into it and get everyone up just to have them sit down and eat dinner. It's like not taking advantage of having everyone up but then again could be a great segment into dinner and then just pick up again after everyone eats.

After dinner was that if we eat at 9pm. Pipers come at 10pm. I thought this would be a great way to get everyone up and back in the mood after eating. The only thing with this is if they come from 10-10:30 then there is only an hour left ant the Viennesse Hour also starts at 10:30pm.

The pipers recommended right after dinner. The DJ is saying a little before dinner starts.

Any more recommendations from people who have had them?
