Well, they're mostly done - they're still drooping a tiny bit at the tips, so we'll have the tips supported for a little while longer. But no more taping up the ears! Yay! Here are some pictures:

Re: Bama's ears are done!
Why would anyone put their beloved pet through pain for no reason? I don't want to argue, I just don't understand...thank goodness no one cropped my ears!:)

Its a practice that started for health and safety reasons. Boxers, dobermans, and other dogs are usually cropped were fighting dogs. They were used to hunt or fight other animals. Having floppy ears was dangerous, since the prey/other animal could bite/tear it off. Many dogs are cropped right after birth, so if you're getting it from a breeder, often you don't have a choice.
No one cropped your ears, but we still 'crop' our male children (unless you're jewish, its not for religious reasons).

It's a simple operation that only requires a couple of stitches and is done at about 10 weeks of age (or sooner). The ears are fully healed within a few days and then you just have to tape them which is not a big deal for the dog at all. It never bothered Bama.
I personally am very sensitive when it comes to animals and animal cruelty, but when DH and I get our second Boxer I would have no qualms about getting its ears cropped (but only by the same vet that did Bama's). Ear cropping for me is about tradition and personal preference. The cropped ear gives the dog a more regal look, while the natural ear is more of a 'cute' look. I would never do anything to my dog that would cause it pain!
Tail docking is done for safety and health reasons as is dew claw removal. Bama had both done when he was a few days old.

I guess he looks big compared to baby Pastina! I could be in the worst mood but all I have to do is look at this cute wrinkly face and all is good.....pets are the best!
