If we could afford it, we would get a band. I think that, with a band, you can really get a feel for their style, and be confidant that they will play all songs you like. With a DJ, you never know when they might slip a 'Macarena' by you...

Re: band or DJ
We had every intention of getting a DJ but then I saw a band perform at a showcase and LOVED the way live music sounded. It is really a lot more money but I am really excited about the band. It's our one big splurge. I think FI would have still went with the DJ though for $$$ purposes.

FH and I are having this debate also - we have no idea what to do! Bands are a nice touch but I would prefer to hear some of my favorite songs in their original versions...we may try to see if we can do a band/dj combo - I heard some bands will also play CD's and be your 'DJ' Haven't looked into this fully yet.

In my opinion my feeling is for what occassion will you ever use a band again in your life?! Nothing, I chose a band that has digital music capabilities that way you have the live singing & instruments as well as the real music in the background. The Projekt is awesome, I've seen them numerous times at showcases. www.theprojekt.com

Re: band or DJ
we love our band. i have been to weddings with both, i liked both very much but i felt a band added something extra special, IMO. to my fh and i there's nothing better than live music, we are very into music so it was important to us and we figured-- you only do it once, let's splurge on the extra expense. for us, when you find a group of really talented musicians--if they are that good, they do sound like the artists and the songs just take on a whole new feel to them. you should see a few showcases so you can see what i mean by that... our band is a 10 person band with too many instruments for me to list-i lose track! but it has four lead singers i know that for sure. they are called heart & soul (Frank Wayne Music). i also recommend Vision, also Frank Wayne... he has a great website you can hear the girl's (and guys too) amazing voices! in terms of volume-to say that only bands are too loud is unfair. both DJ's and bands can be too loud, it all depends on who is doing it. with our band, us being happy with the volume was very important to them so they made a point to say that we control it--however loud or not so loud we want it. they also said they can increase or decrease as the night goes on depending on the mood/songs being played/etc. whatever your decision--your guests will have a blast... good luck with everything, fm me if you have any other ?s.

If we had the $$$ I think we might have gone with the band, but we're really happy getting a DJ anyway, especially because we're getting all the bells and whistles for a lot less money. and like some of u have said already i sometimes think that if i want to hear a song i want to hear it from the original artist and not from someone imitating them. IMO DJ's are also more involved with the crowd...they really work the guests to get up and dance.

Re: band or DJ
I always wanted to have a band at my wedding. So that is all I looked at. We decided to go with Vision. A Franklin Wayne Band. He has 5 or 6 different bands. They are all good.

Depends on your taste. I know a band looks nice but the dj makes it more fun and exciting. They get the guests up and moving. I'm def going with the DJ.

Re: band or DJ
Well, FI's family is Italian and seem really into the idea, which shocked us (cause we're idiots ) but we never would've considered it at all....and we are adamant that we will have a DJ....I saw a band perform recently and they were promoting their services as a wedding performers and sang 'Runaround Sue'!!!!! I think they were really trying to show their range, but they could've done this while keeping in mind their target audience.
Plus, the band was $4-5,000 more! Wow...Just didn't seem worth the additional thought after that...
But, go with what you want/like. We are going with a DJ because it's what we want, not because of the price, although that would sway us away from the band had we been open-minded from the beginning. You also have to consider your reception area/space...a band takes up a lot of room and the singer could move around....a DJ is going to be in one spot.

Re: band or DJ
We wanted both. So to cut costs, we have a jazz band for cocktail hour and a dj for the reception.

Re: band or DJ
All I ever wanted for my wedding was a band... and we got one! I didnt' think we could be able to, but we got them for a STEAL--- $2300 for FIVE hours and they are AMAZING!!!!!!! FM if you want info...) Although I do know my price was a low-season special... i guess there is one advantage to having a wedding i nthe middle of february... which I didn't want, but finances made me get married then as opposed to the summer. ALso, many bands will play CDs while they take their breaks, so you could have both. . . .

Re: band or DJ
A band would have been a majority of our budget, besides I can't see spending all that money for 4 hours. We went with Vinny from High Voltage, and we got just what we wanted at a phenominal price!!

There's a classy element to having a band, but I prefer a DJ and that's what I'm doing.

Re: band or DJ
Absolutey, without a doubt worth the extra money!
Go with the band!
This is one area I am passionate about. I had a band at my wedding who were amazing. I'm still receiving compliments to this day about how great they were. After the location, my next priority was the music. I knew I always wanted a band, I love live music, especially at a wedding. Music can make or break a wedding. There is nothing like listening to live saxaphones, trumpets, and drums at your wedding. A DJ you hear everywhere, birthday parties, graduations. It's your WEDDING. Go with the band! A band adds class to your affair. They aren't out there on the dance floor with their microphone trying to get people up to dance and playing dancing games. They don't have to. People are drawn to the dance floor when a good band is performing. Even if you have to cut back in other areas to get the band, do it. It's totally worth it. People will be raving about the music at your wedding for a long time, trust me.
We used The Mystic. Their website is
themysticmusic.com
They play on Long Island a lot,,,,,,,go see them, and you will see what I'm talking about. They also have video and audio clips on the website.
FM me if you have any questions.

Band!! I think it is classy to have live music at a wedding. My parents are pushing for a band and I think it would be nice. FH and I dont dance but we are going to go for it for our guests.
