band or DJ?

band or DJ?

ok girls..
so If money wasnt an option what would you rather have at your wedding, a band or a DJ???

we went to the showcase at the INN and my dad fell in love with a band that was there (stages) and they were really good and had such a good vibe going. My dad likes them so much he offered to pay the difference of a DJ. I really loved teh band BUT I am worried that they will not have the same freedom and variety as a DJ would. What do you girls think? ?

I love DJs-I want to hear the song the way I love it not the way someone wants to sing it, we went to a wedding in SC and they had hired a very well known band and they were horrid. I think it depends, I have heard that a band can really do an amazing job too and be a really great entertainment-i guess its just a matter of personal preference.

same for me. DJs are great and bands can be too. It's just a matter of preference.

One word of caution though with a band and you have to talk to them abt it, is how often they take a break and what happens when they do. At my friend's wedding last summer (FL, not in NY), her band took a break and there was nothing played--dead air, silence, nada. It was so uncomfortable. Make sure you know what you're getting into. I prefer DJs because like one bride said, I want to hear the song the way it was made and how I like it. Another thing to think about, a lot of bands are limited with what they can play. I mean usually they know a ton of songs and do play a variety, no biggie. But my friend was a little annoyed at her band because they didn't play a lot of songs on her song list, probably because they didn't know them. I mean I still had a great time and thought the band did a good job, but for my friend who was the bride, she was a bit annoyed. I don't think it ruined the night for her or anything. But I think this is something to consider.

Go with what you prefer and what you think will get you up and dancing.

I love djs bc fh and I are 25 and we like the newer popular music. Majority of the people attending our wedding also enjoy newer music. A dj allowed us to do both old and new music. Also Bands have a number of songs they will rehearse for your wedding. I want to be able to have any song played on demand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I perfer a band. i think it really steps up the affair and if you get a great band can be a lot of fun. I think the whole VIBE of a band is great. Most bands can play contempory hits anyways.

Agreed that you definately have to know what you are getting into and get recommendations!

we are actually doing both....we have a band that typically plays at the RH and a DJ to take over when the band breaks and when they end at around 1am, the DJ will stay until the guests are gone.
