Band or DJ, and why?

Band or DJ, and why?

Hey everyone! So I have no idea if I want a band or DJ. Djs I think can play more variety and take more requests but bands can be very fun too and live music is almost always good right? What do you girls think?

Band or DJ and why?

(I'm Italian/American and my FH is Puerto Rican so I need great all around music!)

thanks!

We wanted a DJ and MC because we wanted the songs to sound like the real songs...and we were very happy with our choice! We also had a dinner singer (he sang Frank Sinatra etc!) and had a steel drum band for CH...then we went to a wedding where a really great band was playing and we understood why ppl like bands lol! SOrry I guess I'm not much help but I do know if budget is a concern that a DJ/MC is a lot less than a live band.

I really really really wanted a band. FH really really really wanted a DJ. I lost the battle (for budget purposes) and we're getting a DJ.

However, we are having a piano player during the CH and while people are eating so at least I'm getting some live music.

We chose a DJ because the types of bands I was interested in were $8,000-$12,000+! So we went with a DJ/MC that we trusted and knew would deliver and they did! Michael from Eclipse Entertainment. We got all our lighting from him, as well as our dance floor monogram.

we are going with a DJ. although i think bands sound great when they do older songs like motown and what not i think they sound horrendous when they try to do todays music. especially if they are doing songs that may have a rap verse of some sort. i like the songs to sound like they were supposed to. also, i want my first dance song to sound exactly like its supposed to. i do like the feeling the live act gives but it wasnt worth the money for me. we just got a percussionist instead.

and even if i did want a band....fh's words were 'if the best band out there PAID us $500 to let them play at our wedding i would still say no' lol so it wasnt even an option

We are doing a band, they are about $7000. We really wanted a band, so scrimped on other things in the budget.

i prefer DJ because i want the songs to be played by the original artist. i want my wedding song to be sung by keith urban, not someone else. i think it also depends on the kind of music you want. i have a couple other issues with bands as well, but i won't go into that.

the dj is also cheaper, which is a plus, if you are on a budget.

Neither! How about a dj with a percussionist? Best of both worlds... Thats what im having at my wedding... You hear the real song but still have that live element that really makes the music POP!

We actually wanted a DJ, but our parents wanted us to get a band. Since they're footing the bill, we decided to give in to it. We're actually very happy with the band we chose though, and I have no doubt that they'll make our night amazing.

We have ceremony string quartet, a steel drum band for cocktail hour and a dj with percussionist for the reception. Our reason was because while bands are wonderful at hyping people and the live feel, if someone's having an off night or just not sounding great it can ruin the sound entirely. Also, I like the way songs sound in their original format. I watched a wedding video of a friend who I knew who got married about a year ago and they had this beautifully choreographed dance routine and the singer was singing their song and he went totally off key and I decided then:NO BAND. We have enough live musicians playing that day.

Live music for ceremony & CH, DJ for reception w/ percussionist (for fast songs) and singer (for the slow songs).

We had this debate for a while and weren't sure which way to go but eventually wound up with a band. I loved the energy that live music brought to the party and for me it just had a different feel then a DJ. I felt like it was the only party in my life where I would have great live music so we went for it. DH wanted a DJ at first because he was afraid a band wouldn't be able to play current music and sound like the radio as some people mentioned but if you get a good band they can even sound better than the cd track. Once DH heard our band he was hooked and the thought of a DJ no longer entered his mind. We had every type of music from Andrea Bocelli to Justin Timberlake to Journey and it all sounded AMAZING. Bands can do a lot more than just oldies and sound phenomenal. Our dance floor was packed the whole night!

I would love to have a band but due to our budget we will most likely have a DJ. FH doesn't want a band because he wants the songs to be the original artist, so it sorta works out for him.

DJ...we both wanted a DJ because we wanted the original sound. We actually never considered having a band.

Edited because I agree that you can get quite a variety with a DJ as well. FH is 1/2 Puerto Rican so we're playing salsa and merengue and stuff.

ITA...we want the songs to sound the way we want. We also are having a steel drummer and a vocalist. Our RH has a Pianist that greets our guests on arrival...so we're having a nice mix of live music and its friendlier to our budget.

I say dj because I feel like they are more versatile and can really play any and everything....plus you can get an mc to get it more lively

I always knew we wanted a band. After I heard them sing, I was even more sure.

we are having a band, and at first i was all about dj. i have been to MANY MANY weddings in the past few weeks and all had a dj and it can get really old. they play the same songs at every wedding... i'm asking our band not to play any rap music or hip hop but i've seen them live at popular bars before we booked (which is key) and they are amazing! there are always tons of people on the dance floor!
