Band Versus DJ
My fiance and I are currently in the process of trying to determine the music choice for our reception. We will have a variety of age groups at the reception and would like to include music that appeals to people's different tastes. I was wondering for those of you who chose to have a band at your reception - why did you go with a band over a dj? And for those of you who went with a dj - why did you choose a dj over a band? I have found everyone's input on this site to be very helpful in the past, so any advice/input on this question would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Band Versus DJ
I chose a dj b/c I like the songs it the original form... while I think some bands are super talented...they take breaks...sometimes put funky twists to the songs...don't know all the songs you may want...can break up...and are at least twice as much money I think if I had unlimited money I might have chosen a band though...hard to say...

I chose DanceJock because I saw them at 2 other weddings and absolutely loved them. It is a mix between a DJ and a band b/c there is a live singer along with the MC. The prices are a lot less than a band also. I highly recommend checking them out.

Band Versus DJ
I am a complete die-hard 70's and 80's music fan, and I like to hear the music I love as it was recorded. While some bands do amazing covers, I guess I'm a purist, and want to listen to songs by the artists who made them what they are. So... obviously I had a DJ, but we also had a singer who entertained during dinner, and she was phenomenal! We felt that by having both live and recorded music we kept everyone happy. : )

Scott is the MC and we are either going to have Gayle or Jimmy as the singer. We also got the steel drum band for the cocktail hour. I am so excited!!!

Band Versus DJ
We're having a band. We really love live music, I personally think it sounds so much better that way. I also feel like a band is more elegant and intimate, which is what we wanted. However, some people would rather hear the music from the original artists and/or don't want to spend the money on a band. So it's really a personal decision-you just have to decide what's important to you. Good luck!

Band Versus DJ
Our main reason for choosing a DJ over a band was the price difference. We heard some amazing bands but he cost was way over our budget. We knew that a band was really out of the question for us so we looked for a great DJ. Good Luck!

At first we thought we would go to with a DJ b/c they were so much cheaper. But after thinking about the sort of atmosphere we wanted to create, we knew we couldn't get an upscale feeling with a DJ. Its all a matter of priority and atmosphere.

Band Versus DJ
I think its a matter of preferece. We are from the Caribbean and we want some of the music we grew up hearing to be played and we know a band could never play old reggae or old claypso for us. So we are pleased with our decision to use a DJ. IMHO I don't think band or dj chages your atmosphere or the amount of fun you will have. I think either one does a great job, as long as the experience is there Happy planning all

We had Gayle also, AND the steel drum band. It was a huge hit, and it sounds unbelieveable on the video. Good luck!!!

I wanted more of a party atmosphere at my wedding. I didn't want to worry about breaks. I also wanted more club/house music played. I am having an after party that will have a small band.

Hi Colleen!! You could always email me directly, but since you put the question out there I will give my 2 cents. I think you have to think about what kind of music you want to hear - if you want stuff that will get everyone to dance, a band can do that. But if you want to hear hip hop, house music, etc. Your best bet is a dj. And of course a band is way more expensive, usually, so is live music really important to you? I have heard 2 bands so far, so if you want any info call me.

Would you be able to provide me with the contact information for DanceJock? Also - would you be able to tell me their price range? (if you are comfortable doing that). Thanks!

Dancejock
I'm not Babeyblu, but I also used Dancejock. Their contact info is 40-1 Burt Drive Deer Park, NY 11729 631-242-0042 www.dancejock.com We paid $3,500, and got our DJ, emcee, steel drum band, singer, percussionist, and zap shot screens w/photographer (they take digital photos of your wedding as it happens and display them on 2 large screens for your guests to see. You then get all of the pictures on a video tape set to music). We also used them for our video, which we paid $1200 for. We were 300% satisfied with every aspect of their company, and highly recommend them. : )

Dancejock
I got the same package as JennRenee. I just booked them about a month ago and I paid $3600 for the music, screens etc... and $1500 for the video. It is still cheaper than a band includes all that additional stuff and the video is the cheapest one I have seen and the one that I have liked the best. I dealt with Scott and he was very nice. I highly recommend them also.Welcome New Vendors
