When am I supposed to start the Banns of Marriage at my church. I hope it's not too late.

crashing into this thread....you mean they are so meddling that they post that you're getting married NOT so that everyone knows, but so that someone could stop your wedding (for good reason of course)?? WOW. I've heard it all now.
Our priest also told us that because of the publication of the banns they skip the infamous, 'if anyone here knows why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony, let him speak now or forever hold his peace,' line. My family is nutty, I say the less temptation, the better!

In Judaism there is something similar called an Auf'ruf where the couple is called up to the bimah by the Rabbi and blessed. In addition, they publish that the couple is planning on getting married and if anyone has a legitimate objection then they are supposed to come forward. It also announces to the congregation that the couple plans to wed and prevents any wedding day disasters.
