bc pills...**update**

i just started taking yasim - and i have been having pains in my legs - but i never associated it w/ the pill until today.

has anyone who takes BC pills had this problem? should i be worried?

i called my gyno and he said go to a general practicioner - i have an appointment for that monday.

help!!

seriously - my legs hurt so much right now that i have been putting off getting up and going to the bathroom cause i dont want to walk there....

***update***

thanks to everyone's advice i did go to the ER last night and get my legs checked out. they did an ultra sound on my legs and found no clots. they attributed it to an increase in estrogen - which can cause cramping. he simply advised i check again w/ my gyno and in the meantime take ibruprofen to help with the pain. so i am glad that it is over and everything will be ok.

thanks everyone for all the help yesterday - i got alot of questions answered by a lot of you and just knowing others experiences helped me determine how to handle mine.

thanks again

I just switched from seasonale to yasmin 4 days ago
I haven't noticed anything different - expect I think I lost weight

I never heard of leg pain as a side effect of BC pills- are you sure the 2 are related?

no i'm not - and my dr didnt sound too sure either - i think thats why he recommended that i go to a GP. i have no idea why - the pill is the only thing i can think if that i am doing differently.

its very strange - i was hoping someone else experienced this (well - not really cause it hurts bad) and would say its no big deal.

A friend of mine was on Yasmin and got blood clots because of it - so be careful. Go to the doctor ASAP.

that could explain the pain- do you smoke? b/c there is a greater risk if you smoke

but don't you think the DR should have picked up on that???

EXTREMELY common side effect with ALL BC pills whether you smoke or not. A family member almost died because of a BC caused blood clot. It's the reason why I'm not on BC any longer. Too risky.

With that said, I hope you're fine!!

Re: bc pills...

Symptoms occur in the affected leg when a clot obstructs blood flow and causes inflammation. Symptoms may include the following:

Swelling

Gradual onset of pain

Redness

Warm to touch

Worsening leg pain when bending the foot

Leg cramps, especially at night

Bluish or whitish discoloration of skin

Almost 30-50% of individuals have no complaints

Just an FYI...blood clots are VERY common with the pill. It's not an 'unusual' side effect. I asked my gyno about them and he said 'yeah, it happens' and I said 'well, why don't they make a bigger deal about it? they advertise like the pill like it's super safe' and he said 'it's too big an industry & that'll never happen'.

Please be careful if on the pill!!

ETA: It's not just the pill, it's all hormone BC's.

I don't. I know my DH's aunt was very ill and we were all scared (her clot was near her heart). I pray that it's nothing, a clot sounds innocent but it's not. Healthy vibes!!

Re: bc pills...

Oh geez Louise. Now I understand a heck of a lot. I have been on Yasmin for a while. I havent gained weight but I do get leg cramps and foot cramps. I have had people tell me I had potassium problems and I should chow down on bananas. Well, when your stomach can only hold 4oz at a time (via gastric bypass) bananas arent always an option. If I werent going off of BCP at the end of this cycle in hopes of TTC, then I would be friggin clueless. I was questioning my surgeon and not my GYN. I never would have thought about it. Thanks for the info ladies. We'll see what happens when I stop.
