Ok ladies. . I actually never even REMOTELY explored the idea of using silk flowers for my BMs . . .until a good friend of mine (who recently got married) had a talk with me.
She said, 'Girl . . .why waste $ on flowers for all of those bridesmaids that you will have when they will only throw them away anyway?? There are some silk flowers that look just as good as real ones. You won't be able to tell the difference in the pictures anyway!!'
I had to give it SOME thought because this may cut thousands of dollars off of the final tab! Hmmmm. . I honestly don't know! What do you think??
**looking around for Shamma because I have recently declared her the advice queen!**

We used silk flowers but I will tell you that if its for expense and you seem like you really want real flowers go the real flowers route. Really beautiful silk flowers are expensive. We spent 4k on flowers.
No one would believe us when we said the flowers were fake. Not even the people at the hall. We bought the flowers to the hall the Thursday before the wedding they were telling us oh no the flowers will not make it until Sunday. We were like they are fake. They came up real close and it was not until they saw the bottoms they really believed us.

Not at all. You can get beautiful silk arangements and bok's. But I do have to warn you they are not much less expensive than real in some cases.

Well 4k inclued labor and also all the centerpieces for the reception. The centerpieces were high and we had 25 tables I believe. Real flowers for what we had I got quoted $150 per table. Also we had a huge bridal party. Also the church was loaded with flowers as well.
Thats why I say we did not save expense wise. The lady that did them said it would come out the same if she used real flowers.
We used silk flowers because I wanted a lot of flowers but I can't stand the smell of a lot of flowers. It takes me back to a funeral for some reason. Also my friend that did them just does it for a hobby so storing all those real flowers would of been a task in itself.

Good silks are very expensive so there isnt much if any of a cost savings.
In photos, you can barely tell the difference but I think its very apparent when touching/looking close up.

That's cool, just asking because we did silks as well. Loved having them in my house early. We used Real flowers for the church though.

Re: BE HONEST . . .IS THIS TACKY??
we used all silk for the 'people' but real for the centerpieces. So many people came up to me and asked how I kept my Calla Lilies so white all day... thats a secret I told them... but the secret was that they were beautiful silk ones. All of my BMs have taken thier flowers and made them into arragnements for their houses. and mine are going on our dining room table as soon as I find the proper vase.
So, as far as silk is concerend, I say go for it for the boquets but you will proberly want to go with real for the tables. The smell is something that silk can not reproduce!
I will post some pics of our flowers.
Good Luck Lisa

I am also not a big fan of silk. I am not going to break the bank as far as flowers go-they are the smallest part of my budget-but just simple boquets for my girls-I just love the smell of fresh flowers.

I don't think silk is tacky. Did you look at dgtlsunshine's post of her wedding pics. That bouquet is awesome and it is silk. Who would've thought that. I guess it really depends on if you want real or not. I was a MOH in a wedding and we had mixed real and silk. Very pretty.LOL

Ita not tacky, but I prefer real ones. I only paid $2100 for all my flowers and they are beautiful.

Not tacky at all. As others have said, it can get expensive for really nice ones. I prefer real flowers but its a personal choice. I had cheap ones once as a BM-definitely spend the money for the good stuff if you're doing silk.

Re: BE HONEST . . .IS THIS TACKY??
JMHO - i agree with some of the earlier posts...i have yet to see real-looking silks...BUT i assume that's b/c the real good silk flowers must be as pricey as real flowers...in that case, i'd go with the real ones, which is what most people probably do...my friend at work recently got married and she raved on and on while she was planning about her real-looking silk flowers....i'd forgotten about it by the time i saw her photos, but as soon as i saw the first proof i could tell the flowers weren't real..
