Silk flowers??

Ok ladies. . I actually never even REMOTELY explored the idea of using silk flowers for my BMs . . .until a good friend of mine (who recently got married) had a talk with me.

She said, 'Girl . . .why waste $ on flowers for all of those bridesmaids that you will have when they will only throw them away anyway?? There are some silk flowers that look just as good as real ones. You won't be able to tell the difference in the pictures anyway!!'

I had to give it SOME thought because this may cut thousands of dollars off of the final tab! Hmmmm. . I honestly don't know! What do you think??

**looking around for Shamma because I have recently declared her the advice queen!**

I don't know anyone who used them for their wedding. Why don't you check out Burtons? They did the flowers for my wedding and they were great and we didn't break the bank for them either.

We're using silk for center pieces, and real flowers for 'people' flowers.

Forum Dgtlsunshine.

She used silk flowers, I saw her pictures and they were beautiful. I did not know until she told me.

I will go with real flowers. I have a small bp so I will not be spending as much as some people.

Have you picked your reception hall yet?

I've heard that silk costs similar to real flowers. I don't care for them personally.

What type of flowers are you looking for? Maybe your florist can suggest some lower cost alternatives that create the same overall look and feel.

There have been reviews on here using silk and being very happy with them. But personally, I hate silk flowers.

I will definately do that Nov.Bride! I mean, I'm not broke yet . . .well, not exactly . . .but I always like to try to make an honest attempt of saving a dollar or 2 if possible. Ya'know??

I am being honest. Not everything can be praises. I do not like this idea. Sorry.

Hey Nvrbrd~

I just couldn't commit without trying to fly up to NY. I will be coming home in a few weeks to physically explore my options. I am pleased to announce that because of you and many other brides on this board, I did not have a nervous breakdown. I ALMOST did though prior to visiting this board. Thank God for liweddings.com!!

Thanks again!

I don't think that silk flowers are tacky. I just think they are no where near as beautiful as real ones (I don't care how good the fakes are). I dried my flowers and so did my sister- we didn't throw them away. They are now beautiful dried flowers. What makes you think your BMs want to keep the silk arrangment in their house anyway? The colors might not match their decor, the style might not fit their decor either.
Flowers are NOT a waste of money.

I see nothing wrong with using silk if thats what you prefer. I just like the look and smell of real flowers better. I actually looked into silk or dried flowers for my centerpeices thinking it would save me money, but in reality if you get real flowers that are in season the real could be cheaper.

I am using real flowers, but my friend used silk flowers for her wedding 3 years ago and I never knew they were silk. She told me recently her flowers were silk and I didnt believe her.

Some places do a great job using silk flowers and make them look so real.

I dont see any problems with silk flowers

We did Silk and loved them! I have crazy allergies so this made it so much easier, plus they are a ton lighter, (not necessarily that much cheapier though) and they won't wilt at all.

DO you need a florist that does great silks??

I'm not crazy about silk florals. I wouldn't want them for bouquets.

Also, another plus you can have your flowers in your home in advance. So, no worrying about when they arrive compared to your photographer.

I say there is no problem with silk. I say if you go with silk for your girls you have to make sure your bo-k matches closely. Are you considering using silk anywhere else?? My only problem with silk is color matching. Nothing is wrong with silk as long as its good quality flowers. Our arch was all silk flowers.

If I was low on my budget, I would get all my girls silk but I would have had to have real.

FM Dgltsunshine and let her share her pix with you, her flowers were awesome and they were all silk. You cannot even tell.

I would stay away from silk flowers, that is not to say that I haven't seen some beautiful silk arrangements, but the real deal is always more beautiful. I think in order for the silk ones to look nice you would probably have to invest alot of money in them and they would become as much if not more than real ones. Look in to real flowers, but keep it small and simple, maybe add a lot of candles around them to dress it up.

Really can't agree EveEdam.. depends on the florist..

radiostar - my FSIL got married in Bermuda and the flowers there are sooo expensive - so she had silks one made in the states and shipped them there. They were very pretty and did the job wonderfully - But, they're still not real - personally I'd pick a less expensive florist and use real flowers (I'm using Flowers by Michelle).
