Besides cost, who decided to not to go to Hawaii...why not?
Besides, expense, what are your reasons for not wanting to go to Hawaii? I'm not quite sure whether I'm excited to go to Hawaii. I feel weird because so many people love Hawaii and I'm not as excited... Maybe I'm looking for a different kind of honeymoon...not sure. I would eventually want to go, but am not sure whether I necessarily want it for a HM spot. I just hate of the idea of losing time on a plane!

I may be completely wrong! But from hearing other people's experiences, Hawaii seems pricey and overrated. Like you could get the exotic beach experience elsewhere for less. I've heard some of the islands are super commercial.
However, I may be wrong! And I don't have a doubt some people have amazing honeymoons here.

I am not psyched about Hawaii. A lot of money for me. I'd rather spend it and take a jaunt around Europe!

FH and I were talking about going to Hawaii for our HM but then decided against it because of the cost. We actually decided to go to Bali instead (which i'm SUPER excited about)
We're going to get the same tropical experience with a lot of cultural stuff to do and hikes as well and compared with hotels in Hawaii, you can really get a BEAUTIFUL hotel for way way way less in Bali. Flights are pricey, but everything else is turning out to be pretty affordable.

Bottom line, YOU and FH both need to be excited and completely happy with where you choose to go! Talk about it with him !!!

It's overpriced and everyon and their mother goes there. I don't want to be honeymooning with other couples. We want privacy and seclusion. This is why we got our own 3500 sq foot villa in Playa del Carmen.

ITA. If you aren't jazzed about going to Hawaii then don't go. It's your honeymoon...you need to be over the moon about it.
That being said, I honestly don't think having a thread bringing down the destination many brides do chose to go to is going to help you come to that decision.

DH and I were thinking about possibly doing Hawaii at one point but the reason we chose to go to Jamaica was because we wanted our HM to be completely relaxing with no running around/site-seeing - just a fruity drink in hand either laying on the beach or sitting at the swuim up bar at the resort. I feel that if we went to Hawaii we would have definitely wanted to 'explore' a little more'.

This, plus Hawaii was too far away. We wanted to get away and relax for as long as possible. We were also able to afford 10 nights in a top of the line suite in Playa del Carmen rather than 5 in a place like Hawaii or Bora Bora.

Re: Besides cost, who decided to not to go to Hawaii...why not?
We only have a limited amount of time that we can go. FH's busy season at work is when we get married so we're doing a mini moon and then our real honeymoon is over my Christmas vacation which, bc I'm a teacher, is short. We didn't want to lose all the time traveling...and FH has been to Hawaii before and wasn't that impressed.
We kept hearing RAVES about St Lucia and I visited once on a cruise and LOVED IT so that's where we're heading...direct flight from JFK and we're there in less travel time!!

We didn't go to Hawaii for our honeymoon because we went there 2 years ago for a family wedding. I get that people think it's so cliche and overpriced, but it's seriously incredible. The way of living and culture is completely different from what we're used to, and it's so surprising since it is part of the US. It's absolutely gorgeous. The water is amazing and the natural landscapes are freakin' unbelievable. I love traveling in Europe as much as the next person, but I also love seeing beauty in nature. We had a relaxing time there, but it was also adventurous in that, we explored other beaches on the islands. There are the 'resort' beaches, but you can just as easily find secluded beaches. It's pricey, but if you're willing to try local things, it's the same as what we're used to in NY. On Oahu, there was this amazing food truck in the middle of nowhere that served incredible shrimp dishes. You got like a dozen shrimp in amazing sauce on a paper plate on the side of the road. It's definitely a 'destination' but people live there and there's so much heart and culture to experience if you take the time to look and do research.
I definitely want to go back one day.

I have been to Hawaii 3 times in my life and it is BEAUTIFUL. I can say IMO it is NOT overrated. It is a great destination with TONS of various things to do and also different islands/beaches to visit. I really would not say Hawaii is overrated. It is awesome/fun/beautiful/lots of variety, bottom line it is AMAZING! It is popular for good reasons
Here are our reasons for not choosing it for HM:
- Distance - Cost - When we go, we want to do a Vegas/Hawaii trip that would be at least 2 weeks. We don't have the time for that after the wedding - We wanted to go somewhere and really relax and do an all-inclusive (Hawaii has no all inclusive)
We definitely plan on going in the future though!

We are going to Hawaii, but only spending a few days in the commercial areas. We are spending 4 days on Molakai, which is much quieter. I am also marrying a person that likes to be surrounded by 'busy-ness' but not partake in it (he's weird). Also, I didn't want to deal with a language or currency issue- so Hawaii it is!

Thanks for your help ladies. See, it's not that I don't want to go, but may not want to do it for my HM. I'm going to talk about it with FH today. I flip flop way too much! I know this may sound crazy, but I want to get on my honeymoon asap! lol. If we go to Hawaii, we won't get there in 4hrs. Not a big deal, but I'm not sure whether I want that for my HM. I really do think it depends on what kind of honeymoon a couple wants...the problem is me and FH are both libras and can't make a decision. The only thing we know for sure is that we are spending 7 nights in Playa Mujeres, rooftop terrace at the Exellence. Other options would be Hawaii or two other islands.

I agree..
You should choose a place that you are excited about. I've been to Hawaii, I went my senior year of high school and I was NOT excited to go. Well let me tell you that once I got there i did not want to leave!! I've been itching to go back since! We are going to hawaii, spending time in Maui and time in Kawaii which is more untouched.

I am going to Hawaii and am totally pumped about it! I really did not think it was overpriced at all. I feel like we got an amazing deal and we will be spending 10 days alone together in a beautiful place, how could I not love it? At this point, you could take me anywhere with a beach and I would be thrilled! I have always, always wanted to go to Hawaii...even if everyone and their mother Honeymoons there. I hope wherever you choose to go it is fabulous and you have a great time!
