Besides cost, who decided to not to go to Hawaii...why not?
Original post by cc2011
Besides, expense, what are your reasons for not wanting to go to Hawaii? I'm not quite sure whether I'm excited to go to Hawaii. I feel weird because so many people love Hawaii and I'm not as excited... Maybe I'm looking for a different kind of honeymoon...not sure. I would eventually want to go, but am not sure whether I necessarily want it for a HM spot. I just hate of the idea of losing time on a plane!

For us, it was too far to fly...I hate flying and FH isn't crazy about doing anything over like 8 hours. Plus, I found Turks and Caicos (our HM location) on a top-10 list of beautiful beaches for 2011...and it's only 3 hours away! Anndddd...we found a brand-new all-inclusive that sounds amazing...and also I wanted to be different
But Hawaii does sound amazing...maybe I can cruise there one day

We're doing a cruise around the Hawaiian islands for our hm, It leaves from Vancouver so the flight isn't as long but the first five days are at sea so we can relax before all the excursions etc. I'll let you know how it goes.

DH and I were thinking about possibly doing Hawaii at one point but the reason we chose to go to Jamaica was because we wanted our HM to be completely relaxing with no running around/site-seeing - just a fruity drink in hand either laying on the beach or sitting at the swuim up bar at the resort. I feel that if we went to Hawaii we would have definitely wanted to 'explore' a little more'.
This!!

For us, we never even considered Hawaii. I wanted to go somewhere that we could sight-see, travel and be active. I wanted for as long as I can remember to go to Australia. We're going to Australia for 2 weeks!
If we couldn't swing the cost we would have probably done Italy..

I was not flying that far and being stuck in an airplane with my baby of an FH! He barely makes it to Alaska when we visit my parents! Haha!!!!!

this is JMO, Hawaii sounds nice and all, but alot of the things you can see there you can see in the Caribbean and for a lot cheaper. This can be said for many countries, because more than one country may offer what you are looking for. It all comes down to preference. However, it takes 11 hours on a plane trip alone, direct flight to get to Hawaii. I would much rather spend that time flying half a world away. And IMO, Hawaii is still in the US, i would rather say that I went somewhere else! you know? Plus its really expensive, so if your flexible, you can get so much more for your money, even maybe a longer HM depending on where you go.

We were very close to going to Hawaii but ended up not doing it because we didn't like any of the hotels that fit within our budget.

I am not psyched about Hawaii. A lot of money for me. I'd rather spend it and take a jaunt around Europe!

I love the Caribbean and have been to many islands... The problem with going there in August... which is when we are getting married is... HURRICANES!!! I know more than one couple who paid a lot of money to sit inside, sometimes without electricity and for extra days because of a storm. I just didn't want to take the chance.... So HAWAII it is.... Plus I have heard amazing things over and over from people I know who have been there!

Really??? I'm so on the fence! The plane ride is long and I'm so impatient. I would want to go to Hawaii, but, not sure whether I would want it for a honeymoon. By the way, is the water in Hawaii calm?

Lol the only reason why I don't wanna go there is bc of how lomg the flight is. I know two friends who've gone for their hm and they loved it!! You'll have a great time!!

I have to disagree. The Carribean is beautiful, but Hawaii is in a whole different league. If it's really just sand and water you're looking for, then maybe, but Hawaii is incredible and very exotic.

The water depends on where you are on which island, during what season. Some of the touristy areas (like Waikiki) have breakers so that the water is always calm. The north shore of Oahu is known for its big waves, especially in the winter... the big surfing competitions are held there. The west coast of Maui, where lots of people stay, is known for having fairly calm water and good snorkling... but there are still parts that aren't as good. The resort we stayed at in Kauai had huge waves crashing into rocks and swimming was highly discouraged, but other parts of the island were fine.
What hotel in Kauai did you stay at?

How far is Tahiti from Hawaii? We were going to do Hawaii, then Mexico, then back to NY. I feel like regardless on how it's broken up, we will always end up travelling quite a few hrs in a plane. Unless we do something like Aruba, Mexico then Maui. I wish everything was close ttogether.
