OK. Can you tell that I have NO clue about weddings?

Please give me suggestions or comments on halls...and price ranges...what were you able to bargain in??

I dont want to walk into a catering facility and be totally DUH! I think its like a girl walking into a car dealership by herself.....you know??????

I know i can make my own menus, programs and place cards..I design things like this for me all the time...A coordinator? What do they do?

A full service coordinator will help you find a hall and help you pick vendors - the whole nine.

A day of coordinator (DOC) will start about two weeks before the wedding confirming vendors, going to the final hall meeting, coming to the rehearsal dinner to meet everyone, run around for you the day of the wedding making sure everything is set up as you requested, basically take care of any glitches that day so you do not have to delegate it to a BM or a guest. They range from $200 - $1K or more for DOC services.

I have heard of some really involved DOC's starting as early as when the hall is booked but actually only being paid for DOC services.

Re: Best Bang for your $$

I wish I had asked about different nights of the week (instead of just Saturday night) and different times of the year (instead of just the summer). Knowing what I know now, it's really not that important to me to get married in the summer months, but when we looked at halls, I said I was only interested in Saturday nights in June or early July which are some of the most expensive months. This ruled out some places I love b/c they were either too expensive or booked for those months. If I could do it all over again, I would've asked for all the prices.

If you find a place you love, definitely try negotiating or finding out their least expensive months/times/days of the week.

I found out recently that we totally could've afforded a hall I absolutely loved if we'd only had our wedding in the winter...Sigh
