Best way to 'dump' someone?

A friend of mine recently went on 2 dates with a girl he met online. They had a nice time, but the sparks didn't fly and he's not sure he's 'into her that way'.

He doesn't know if he should give it another date, because she's everything he wants on paper, but it just isn't 'there' when they are together...

If a new date isn't working out, would you rather hear 'I'd really like to be friends, but I just don't see us being romantically involved' or some kind of excuse (like his ex girlfriend is back in his life or something?) He doesn't want to be mean or hurt her feelings.

What is the best way to do this? And before he does it, should he go on one more date to give it another chance?

This feels so High School :) Thanks!

That's a tough call, but I don't think I would amke up an excuse (nor would I want to hear one)...that gets into the realm of insulting. JMHO

Re: Best way to 'dump' someone?

I would give it another chance because I think the first 2 dates are always strange. By the 3rd date you really get to see a little more of that person.

If he wants to end it after that and he really wants to be friends with her then he should tell her that. I always appreciate honesty.

Re: Best way to 'dump' someone?

That is what I initially told him... to be honest... but then he was afraid that she would think there was something wrong with her, or be upset... Though it's only 2 or 3 dates, she shouldn't be TOO upset, but you never know :)

When he calls tonight, I'll suggest one more date and then honesty!!

I think it's best to be honest. Excuses, lies that don't make sense etc, only hurt the person or leave then wondering and lingering around.

I had that recently happen to me, and my ex was 'nice' to a girl and she lingered

That's all he needs!! He's such a nice guy, and is really sensitive to other people's feelings, I hope he doesn't do that!!!
I hope the lingerer is gone!!
