Please make sure you use your credit cards and Debit cards safely. I just found out yesterday that someone has been using my Debit/Credit number and went on a huge shopping spree. The money also came directly out of my checking account and I have to fill out papers and wait about 5 days to get all my money back. Supposedly there are machines out there that can make copies of your card and get your info. off the back magnetic strip. This really stinks! Please try not to use a debit/Credit card at places where you can not see the person scan your card. Ex: when you go to a gas station they take your card and bring it back with the recipt to sign. At the bank today they said I was the second person this week. I also reported this to the police. I just wanted to warn everyone!

Re: Beware of Credit card Identity Theft
I lost my social security card today. I found out when I went in my purse looking for my boys pics and when I asked my SIL if she knew where my pics were she said oh no. and immediately thought of identiy theft. I hvae to get a new ss card which sticks and dont know whow to go about it. but you have to be careful even on line with identity theft.

Re: Beware of Credit card Identity Theft
I had a roomie in college that would sneak onto my computer when I was in class --- she managed to get my address, addresses of my friends, etc. I had passwords saved, like ebay and paypal (that was when they had less security) and she went in there and bought me some vibrators and porn (VERY mature.)
She also went on a public forum that I was on a lot (it was all kids from my h.s. grad class) and mouthed off to a bunch of people... I had to explain later that it wasn't me, but it was a lot of headaches.
She posted pictures of me on numerous websites and just made a big mess of my life. (This is why I'm reallllllly careful on public forums like this, it's not like I have anything to hide, it's just that I don't want the wrong people to find out that 'shorty' is really ______ from Albany...)
This happened 2 1/2 yrs ago and this girl STILL tries to get in my business! RAVEN: IF YOU'RE READING THIS, go get your crazy on somewhere ELSE!!!
Why? Because she was a psycho and I wouldn't let her use my cell to call all 3 of her boyfriends every night. nutso!!!!!
Be careful ladies! It's not just financials! There are craaaazy people out there.

Re: Beware of Credit card Identity Theft
OMG...this same thing happened to me just a few months ago.
One day I went to use my debit card to purchase something and they told me the sale would not go through...as soon as I got to work, I tried to use the ATM...it said call your bank immediately.
I found out that someone had actually stolen my account and swipe info and made up a new card and used it at a Toys R Us in CA to purchase $1000 worth of stuff!!!!!!!!
It took 2 weeks for my money to be posted back to my account...I had to sign all sorts of affidavits and stuff and it was just pure aggravation.
I'm not really sure if there is ever going to be any way we can totally protect ourselves from this sort of theft...and that really sux.
