BFing Moms- is this new Medela feature worth the $

Medela just came out with their Instyle Advanced. It is about $60 more than their orginal style. Basically the Advanced has a 2-minute 'let down' feature. That means for the first 2 minutes of pumping you get 128 cycles per minute to simulate a baby's first few minute of feeding, then it automatically goes into 'expression' mode.

I was going to get the Ameda Purely Yours which is the same exact pump as the Instyle without the marketing campaign and it is about $160. But I am not sure if this new feature on the Advanced is worth the money.

The lacation consultant I spoke to said that it is a great pump but she cannot see the new feature making that huge of a difference for most women.

I could see it being good but if you relax yourself enough you are going to have a nice let down anyway.

I agree Karen. Plus, you could always speed up the pumping on the old Medela to stimulate your let-down...if you really needed to.

IMO, I don't think it's worth the extra $60 Michele. I never had any problem with let-down. HTH!

I am not sure if it is worth the money since I have not tried it, but my guess is NO. I have the Medela Pump In Style which has a few speeds on it already. The times I could not let down for the pump I tried other things (hot shower, look at baby pix, etc.) and they did not work either. I do not think this new feature would have done the trick either.

I have the Medela in style pump and don't have a problem with let down at all...I don't think it's worth the extra money. Its sounds like a marketing gimmick to me.

HTH
