I was actually thinking about this today! I am not on bc and never have been.... b/c well, I'm still a... you know.... and I'm actually trying and planning to abstain until my wedding night. So I'm pretty unsure of when I should get on bc. Plus I'm trying to lose weight and I've heard about a lot of girls gaining weight or having trouble losing once they are on bc..... ????
Advice? Suggestions?? Thanks!

most of the weight you gain is from bloating/water weight. stay away from the salt and drink a lot of water and you should be fine. also take a lo dose pill as it scews with your hormones/emotions/everything else less.

the pill takes at least a month to kick in, so i'd recommend at LEAST starting a month b4 th wedding, probably more if you want to make sure everything's 'on schedule' (no break through bleeding, etc.). talk to your doctor about it.

Well, I had planned the pills out perfectly..... so that i would not have it for the wedding.....Well i didn't factor in stress .....Now i think i will have it the day of the wedding! !

But.....I guess worse things could happen i guess!

Me too, don't feel bad

3 period free months??? the Depo shot is a great idea! I think i'm going to look into that.

Seasonale does the same thing. Some people have bad reactions to depo (and unlike pills, you can't just 'go off' it if something goes wrong). This is something I would try very close to the wedding. A few people I know who have taken the shot had their period for at least the first 2 weeks and breakthrough bleeding during the first 3 months. After the 2nd shot it was better.

As for weight gain, it depends on the person and the drug combo. My gyno told me that just as many people lose weight as gain weight on bc pills, and most weight gains are 5 pounds or less. I haven't really had any problems except water retention weight gain when I first started.

I am on Triphasil...and it def made me gain weight.... No more than 5lbs...but 5lbs is 5lbs!! It also gives me mood swings during that time of the month. I was NEVER like that before at all! I am going to talk to my doc to get a lower does pill!
Also- be careful, certain ppl react diff to the pills..and they may make you break out!!!!

Lools...just so you know there are side effects to the pill that I know I always experience including irritability and mood swings. I also have a lower sex drive on the pill.

Great! I already have those side effects without the pill!!! lol poor FH!!

My SIL had hers at her wedding!

They wanted to try to have kids right away, though, so I guess going on the pill wasn't an option. Good news is that there was a honeymoon baby!

jsut a warning on the depo shot - i have never been on it so i hate giving second hand information but this is important

if you are planning on having kids soon i would not suggest the shot - two of my friends did not get their periods for more than a year after going off the shot -

sounds great unless you will be TTC during that time

HTH!

Yes, it has the same side effects of the pill, but with one downfall - You can stop taking the pills to get rid of the side effects. With the depo, once you've had the shot, you can be stuck with the side effects for a while. Some people swear by it. I've never tried it...

If you haven't taken it before, I'd try it WELL in advance of your wedding (at least 6 mos) just in case of unexpected side effects.

UGH!!!!! I have imagined the scenario, (changing in that dress) and that's what prompted me to make an appointment to get on b.c.!!! Cramps and bloating and mood swings and swollen boobies, carrying tampons on my wedding day!??!!?
