i would set up an appt with your gyno - some people need to be on the pill for medical reasons other than birth control ... i would trust their opinion....

Re: birth control pill

I was on BC (the patch) for almost 5 years. Last year I decided to go off of them (in late January) without telling my doctor.

BIG MISTAKE!

A little over a month later I had a TERRIBLE case of vertigo and agoraphobia (meaning I couldnt leave my house). I had to go on disability and eventually I was laid off from work because I wasnt able to perform my duties ( I was a director of sales). Anyhoot, I was told that they werent sure what triggered my vertigo or my panic attacks but Im almost 100% positive it was due to the fact that I was totally chemically and hormonally imbalanced!!! SO, to make a long story short (kind of LOL)...def talk to your gyno before going off of them !!!!

Re: birth control pill

I was on the BC pill for 10 years. I originally went on the pill to help with cramps (I think--it was so long ago now). Anyway, I just went off the pill 3 months ago because we plan to start trying to have kids at the end of this summer, and I wanted my body to be as regulated as possible. My first period off the pill was a couple days later than usual, but other than that normal. The next two periods after that have come exactly on time and are still only 3-5 days long (like when I was on the pill). I do get MUCH WORSE cramps than I used to but thats just part of being female I guess. So turns out I'm one of the lucky ones that regulated very quickly. I'm definitely thankful for that.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

I have been on and off for about 7 years now. I went on it for the same reason you did... to regulate my period. I went off of them about 6 months now and for the MOST part, my period is regular... I might be a few days late here and there but I am getting it fairly regularly... The only issue I have now is I get EXTRA BAD cramps! It only lasts one day a month but it is torture!

I was on the pill for about 4 1/2 years when I went off of it. I was really nervous at first because I had been taking it for so long that I wasn't sure what would happen once I stopped.

I got regular again right away and I was so moody before I went on it (depressed to the point that I didn't want to get out of bed and stuff. I think it gave me pre-menstral dysphoric disorder), now that is all gone and I've never been so happy in my eintire life. It's like I'm a completely different person. After realizing that BCPs did that to me I'll never go on it ever again.

I'd say the worst thing I experienced after going off was that I break out again when I PMS. And sometimes I get zits on my chest (which never happened before). It was bad when I first when off, but now that it's been a year and a half it isn't so bad. I also have a heavier period, but not by much, and I'd say it lasts about the same time period.

I've been on BC since I was 17 (almost 9 years). I am not going off until we are ready to try, I had a talk with my doctor and she recommended this to me. She basically told me everyone's body is different but I shouldn't worry about being able to get pregnant. It may not happen right away, but it will happen. I'm fine with that :)

Re: birth control pill

thanks... you know what? I feel much better!!!

I talked to my doctor about this....i was going to go off now... and he was like...you want to get pregnant b4 the wedding?

i thought that it took a while to get out of your system... he said no 24 hrs.

so ladies beware....as soon as you do go off the pill... you will become fertile myrtle!!!

needless to say i changed my mind and opted to wait until after the wedding.

also this way i can control my period and make sure i do not get it on my wedding day!!!

I have been on the pill baout ten years!!! I have contemplated going off before the wedding, but I don't want to have to worry about having my period for the wedding. So I am going to go off the pill a month or so after we are married!! Try to get back on track on my own.

I've been on for the past 7 years and my Dr. said don't go off unless I want to get pregnant and she said the first three months you are off are the most fertile time. I love being on the pill, never get my period, no cramps, no skin problems and hormonally balances me, before going on them I had such mood swings each month, now I'm nice and steady.

I will go off them right before the wedding and try to get pregnant and then go back on as soon as I can. I love them.
