I am going back on the pill next cycle around, and I am trying something new.
Has anyone used Ortho-tri-cyclen LO ? It is supposed to be a lower dose, but still strong enough, and is said to have lower incidense of typical side-effects, ie, weight gain and acne, etc.
Anyone?

I am about to try Yasmin, but I am a bit scared. I posted a thread last week for all BC questions, I will look for it for you and post it

Re: Birth Control Pill
I take the mega-low dose Mircette (20 mcg I think) and so far it has worked for me - I'm not convinced it has anything to do with my skin issues though. I like it....but some people don't like, Suzanne.
Other than that I was on Allesse which I liked and then years and years ago I was on Demulen.

Re: Birth Control Pill
wow, I never even heard of any of those
I was previously on Ortho tricyclen, and regular orthocyclen...
I Hope this is a good one! I hate having to switch back and forth, etc...

Re: Birth Control Pill
I was on allesse (which made me a pscho!) and then I was on ortho.. which killed my hormones.. it made them take a plunge..
I am not on anything..i had to get off of everything completely.. but am thinking about going on Yasmin..I like the fact that it reduces bloating.. whcih I have aproblem with.. cause I retain almost 10 pounds of water weight!.. it's bad..
you always have to try several pills (or perhaps just 1 if you are lucky) before finding the one that's best for you.. goodluck!

Re: Birth Control Pill
I was on allesse but I started breaking out and I never did that before so my doc switched me to ortho-tricyclen and I love it.
I think the only side effect (if you want to even call it that) is because of the BC's my chest went from a 34B to a 36DD. (I was on the pills for 5 years and over the 5 years my chest just got bigger. They finally stopped growing. I just cant take it buying bra's for these puppies)
I have been off them for about 3 months but I plan on going back on them next month
I never had any problems with the 2 brands I took

Re: Birth Control Pill
I was on Orthocyclen and hated it. So when my nurse practioner told me about the Lo one, I said no way. I've been on LoEstrin Fe 1/20 and have had no problems.
Also, you should find out if the Lo one is monophasic or triphasic. Meaning one amount of hormones for the whole month or different amt of hormones each week. This is important to me, b/c I sometimes skip my period when I go on vacation, go to the beach, etc. My nurse practioner told me that with a tri phasic pill, the skipping the period, may or may not work.

Re: Birth Control Pill
What is Yasmin and will it help libido issues?
My doc told me that the pill should not affect libido but I'm here to tell her I disagree....anyone else willing to admit to this? And did they get help?

Re: Birth Control Pill
Thrilled If the pill does that to me I will be the first to raise my hand! That is not a side-effect I hope to deal with.
But, because I am going back on the pill to help alleviate some problem menstrual symptoms I am having (heavy bleeding, etc) I really hope to find one that does not give me problems.
Also... I can see how a pill that directly affects our hormones could affect libido... I would ask your doc to try another brand!

Re: Birth Control Pill
That is BS Rachel!!! I am a firm believer that pills DO affect the libido!! I have been on mircette, ortho cyclen, desogen and they ALL affected my libido. I'm on Loestrin right now and my libido has gone up a lot!

Re: Birth Control Pill
I am on Lo Estrin Fe-- No really complaints about it-- the only reaction I had was that the generic was not working for me but the regular does. I was on Orthro Nurom 777-- It put me into a depressive state-- would not get out of bed etc. as soon as I was off-- I was back to my normal self

Re: Birth Control Pill
Swags: I'm on the generic of Loestrin right now, b/c my insurance co. decided one day that they weren't going to pay for the brand name I've been on it for a month and have had no problems. What kind of problems did you have?

Re: Birth Control Pill
Rachel, orthotriceclene cut my libido and the my doc said that you just have to keep on trying different ones until you find the one... I am not trying Alesse, but the effects won't be seen till 3 months into it.
So my Dr. agrees that pills can cut libido.
