Birth Control question

thhis upcoming January I will have been on the pill for 5 years, we are not ready to have kids yet. Although I am prepared to go off it and use other forms of BC.
But I used to hear horror stories about being on the pill to long can damage you in the long run. Is there any truth to this?

Re: Birth Control question

I was in the ER for heart palpitations and pains in my lungs. The Doctors there thought I had a blood clot in my lung from the pill and I had to go through many tests. It ended up being just panic attacks... and I said to them that clots/heart problems do not run in the family and that I though it had to run in the family to cause problems. The Doctors basically laughed at that and said they had a few young girls in every week with clots from the pill!!!!! I didn't know it was so common so I definately plan on going off the pill soon. I am very nervous though, because my period was awful before I started the pill... will it go back to the way it was?

I have been on Depo on and off for about 6 1/2 yrs now. Everytime I go to the Gyno I always ask about long term affects and she always says none. So far so good.

i have been on the pill for 7 years. i actually switched from orthotricyclene to the low version about a year ago. my gyno said that the regular pills have too much estrogen and that lower is better for the long term girls.

Is any one concerned about hormones or mood swings on any of these methods?

Why don't you do what DBCrosby did. I take a very low version of the pill. (at my request) I take Loestrin.

I would be because I tried to switch my pill once...and only once. I became a psycho b!tch, it was awful. And that was only going from Ortho Tri Cyclene to Ortho Tri Cyclene Lo. Never again - I'm on this until I want to have kids (I've been on for 7 years).

ditto Im on the same pill for over 10 years. No side affects or long term effects. I do not however take the new and improved higher end pills they have out there.

Mine's still brand name but not as complicated as the ones now out in the market. So I have lower doses of estrogen and other horomones that make the pill work.

Im not stopping the pill for at LEAST another year. Then I'll stop and start trying to conceive.

I've been on and off the pill for about 5 years now.... yes, you will get mood swings, breakouts, weight changes when you stop. This is your body adjusting to changes in your daily hormone levels.

The blood clot thing is more prevalent in women above 30 who smoke and take the pill.

They say being on it actually help prevent certain cancers.

I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen for 5 years, went off in October and I gained weight, I am very emotional , my face breaksout and is very greasy now and my period went back to being very irregular like before I went on the pill. My hormones went crazy when I went off the pill If we were not trying to have a baby I would go back on the pill in a heartbeat!
