Bittersweet Week

Bittersweet Week

So...FH and I have been looking at houses over the past two weeks. We both want to take advantage of the down housing market while it is still down. Well, FH and I are paying about 90% for our wedding, along with the honeymoon. Originally, we though we might have been able to swing it all cash wise, but last night we found a house that we both LOVED (which is the first time this has happened). So, after reviewing our finances - we think we should buy a house now (as opposed to waiting closer to the wedding in May) and forgo our Honeymoon to Tahiti and maybe do a 1 year anniversary HM. We are both soooo incredibly depressed about that (We only have a deposit down for the HM which can be moved to a different time)...but excited about a house at the same time. This is the most difficult decision for us so far...but are willing to wait a yr to get ourselves financially organized to buy a house. Uuuuggghhhh - so dissappointing, yet so excited and scary at the same time. Have any of you ladies decided to put off your HM for financial reasons??

thats great you found a house! congrats!

we haven't had to push the HM at this point, but we may need to cut the HM down a little.

Re: Bittersweet Week

You know many girls I know have done this. Some people take a mini-moon after the wedding, like a quick weekend getaway and wait until later to take their 'real' honeymoon....

If this was me, I would totally put the HM off, take a mini weekend, like maybe to a bed and breakfast for 2-3 days, buy the house of your dreams that you and FH love and then go to your honeymoon a few months later. If this house is something you both love, I wouldn't let it pass for a honeymoon!!!

thats the smartest thing u could have possibly done!!!

HM or A HOME?? HMMM LETS SEEEE? lol!

CONGRATS!!!

we arent going on a honeymoon right away, only because we're getting married at the end of april.. and we dont like going on vacation when the weather is nice here. We're going on our 'HM' october/novemeber --that'll be 6-7 months after the wedding.

dont be bummed. Tahiti will ALWAYS be there.. and u never know... hotel prices might drop ..fares might go down..and u might be able to do both... but trust me.. u made the best decision!

so happy for u guys

I am putting off my HM until later. after the wedding we are just gonna go somewhere close with my parents who will be here from Israel.
we are putting off HM also b/c of financial reasons, and we are not buying a house.
great that u found a house u both love! that is so much better than a HM which can be taken any other time and still be fun

Look at at it this way: A house or a honeymoon?

Yeah pushing back a honeymoon is crappy, but I'd be friggin ecstatic to be buying a house!

Re: Bittersweet Week

im sorry you are disappointed but i def agree this is a good decision. I would def take a mini-moon like some of the other girls suggested. After the wedding you will want some time to get away together and just relax. I am sure you can find something inexpensive to do.

congrats on finding a house!

Don't be depressed! Buying a house is an awesome thing. Why dont you take a mini-moon after the wedding and then your real honeymoon like you planned for you 1 year anniversary. This way you have something to look forward to after the wedding and for you anniversary. Congrats on the house!!!!

Re: Bittersweet Week

Thanks Ladies!! Thats what we were thinking...taking a mini-moon after the wedding and buying a house, then doing the whole anniverary moon thing lol. It was actually kinda funny when we were talking about it last night...we both know what the right decision is (of course to get a house)...but we were still comisserating together about a HM that we have both been dreaming of. To make things better though - we said that we will start to trying to have our first baby on the 1 yr anniversay moon...so that cheered the two of us up!

It is all so exciting...yet scary buying a house...ya know? I can't wait and fingers crossed that the house we found will work out!!

CONGRATS on finding a house!!! That is so much more important than a honeymoon and I completely think that you are making the right decision. A house is forever. Try not to be bummed!

Look at it this way too....if you buy the house b4 Nov30th, you get the $8k first time homebuyer credit...so you can use that $8k for the HM. Definitely get the house now, its the best decision for your future.

Congrats on the house - that's so exciting!

It stinks about the honeymoon, but I would definitely look into doing a mini vaca right after, like heading Out East for a few days or something. Having your honeymoon a year later will give you something else to look forward to and help with the after wedding blues!!!

PUt off the exotic honeymoon and get the house.

I've been a homeowner for a year now. The scariest thing I ever did, but also the best.

Congrarts on finding a house you both love!!

i know it may really s u ck putting off your hm but if it means getting a house then totally do it!!!!!!! you could always just take a week off from work after the wedding and hide out in your new place!!!! stock up on wine and junk food and order out everynight
