The church we are getting married at does not have a permanent priest right now. So after going through the chain of command we ended up at a meeting tonight with the arch bishop of Queens, who immediately says that he will marry us...
However, after listening to him talk about India and sex-trade for almost an hour he starts telling us his 'rules':
1) He hates tardiness. If i am even 5 min late to the wedding he will leave - ummmm ok. 2) He hates photographers and doesnt want any at the wedding - what!
I challenged him on rule #2 explaining how important pics were for me. So he said, 'I will make an announcement before the wedding telling the guests that they are not allowed to take pics and you can have one photographer sit in the 4th row to take pics but he is not allowed to move.'
Again I challenged (politely). To which he responded, 'Well then Im not marrying you... I'll let you know when I find someone willing to marry you!'

Oh my goodness! I would find a priest who doesn't have rules like that. He seems to be too strict on one of the most important days of your life!

Fh should be backing you up on this, I dont think you were wrong to say something. Why was he pulling diva-esque behavior? is he like the priest of all priests? Im sure you will be able to find someone who wont have any problems with picture taking in church

I don't understand why the church makes it sooo difficult. They should be happy young couples want to get married in their church. I'm having a problem with the church too as well as a few girls on here. I think you have every right to want pictures. Can you go to another church?

Wow! I would have reacted the same way. Very odd. You should have told him you would honor his requests if he waves the church donation. LOL. Doubt he would have liked that rule!

Can you call other parishes and ask for one of their priests? Maybe even a priest from your church? There has to be someone else. Don't give in--you need pictures and this priest is just being difficult. I just see him adding stress to your day.

Glad you stood up for yourself. FH should be backing you up on this. Your right this is the most important day of your life and if it was me I would not want that priest to marry me.

I would have been GLAD I said something!! I wouldn't have wanted him to marry me and FH! Blessing in disguise, maybe he'll find someone who will be nice to you!

Reasons like this is why so many people walk away from the church. They make it difficult for their congregation and do not know how to be flexible. There was no reason for him to give those rules, especially knowing anything can happen to cause someone to be late and how does anyone not accept the Photographer's presence? He just didn't want to perform your wedding and he wanted it to be your decision. Shame on him.
