Black Bridesmaid dresses

Original post by EVS2009

Dear all,
I have fallen behind on all my plans and it's crunch time. my wedding is april 25. I have a very big dillemma...the dress I chose for my bridesmaids looks incredible in black. there is no other color that tickles my fancy for this specific dress style as much as the black does. What are your opinions on bridesmaids wearing all black? my mother is not happy AT ALL with this idea. We are Greek Orthodox and my mother said it will look like we are going to a funeral rather than a wedding. Can someone please send me some comments about the black bridesmaids dresses? On the same note...if i were to go ahead with the black dresses regardless of everyone's feelings i was also thinking of making the entire event black tie. please send me your views on this as well, no matter how harsh.
the other colors i was thinking of doing are beige (very light beige, almost cream), pale blue, or pale pink. you see, all these other colors may not photograph nicely, nore may they be in season or as happy go lucky as bright colors. should i pick a color that will be in season and cheery even if the dress itself doesnt look great in that color?
PLEASE HELP!!!

I don't think it'll drown you out at all! Is it a light champagne (like almost beige) or a darker (closer to a brown). And what color are your flowers? Maybe if you gave them a really colorful bouquet with classy shades of pink, it would add to the look.

That dress is gorgeous!!! Who is the designer??? ;) I was in my brother's wedding this past October and all of the girls wore black. It looked very classic. Let me see if I can pull up a picture for you to see...

the color is beige. it is not off white, nor close to brown. it is darker than champagne by a shade or two.
i didnt pick bouquets yet but i did have either a peach or pink in mind. the centerpieces will be calalilies i think. i bought lenox vases to put them in....let me post some picks in my album.

I'll be honest as much as I love black I didn't choose it for my BM's dress because it blends in with the groomsmen. I wanted the girls to stand out and for the colors in the pictures to be vibrant. I choose a pink (rose) color from Bari Jay. But this is just my opinion.

This is the best I could do...There weren't that many pictures of all of us together. I wouldnt have chosen to wear all different styles of dresses, but I think it will look beautiful and elegant if everyone wears that same dress. Don't worry about your mom...tell her that this is the trend. ;P

I agree about the groomsmen color thing. very good point.

the rose is a pretty color, but what about with style 810? its not meshing right to me. what do you think? i really do want to find a happy medium. i do not want to pick black. it would really hurt my family if i did.

Thats too funny i didnt even realize your's was a Bari Jay as well. I don't know if that dress is available in the Rose color. I think it might be just for the satin dresses. I choose style 603.

You had black dresses with some color in the sash so it broke the black a little bit. i was even told if there is some kind of color it wouldnt be a big deal either but my dress really doesnt have anything like that.

by the way, the wedding band you got is exactly what i am having done with mine, only my bands will be connected to each other so they fit around the engagement ring as a jacket.

Black is always in fashion. I say go for it and get some kind of brightly colored flowers for the gals.

My mom said the same exact thing! I can't hold it against her too much because she just has old school mentality. Times have changed and SO many girls are using black BM dresses. I just recently went to visit with a potential florist and ask her what she thought about black BM dresses (she's seen a million pics - figured I'd ask her opinion) because I was debating black or champage. She told me that all the BM's she's seen in black just naturally feel more confident. Its a classic color that also has slimming effects! A bright or light colored flower will pop again it and it'll look great in pics. Don't stress.. just go with what you love.
