Black Bridesmaid dresses

Original post by EVS2009

Dear all,
I have fallen behind on all my plans and it's crunch time. my wedding is april 25. I have a very big dillemma...the dress I chose for my bridesmaids looks incredible in black. there is no other color that tickles my fancy for this specific dress style as much as the black does. What are your opinions on bridesmaids wearing all black? my mother is not happy AT ALL with this idea. We are Greek Orthodox and my mother said it will look like we are going to a funeral rather than a wedding. Can someone please send me some comments about the black bridesmaids dresses? On the same note...if i were to go ahead with the black dresses regardless of everyone's feelings i was also thinking of making the entire event black tie. please send me your views on this as well, no matter how harsh.
the other colors i was thinking of doing are beige (very light beige, almost cream), pale blue, or pale pink. you see, all these other colors may not photograph nicely, nore may they be in season or as happy go lucky as bright colors. should i pick a color that will be in season and cheery even if the dress itself doesnt look great in that color?
PLEASE HELP!!!

my girls tried that on. I like black. It was between black and eggplant. I only chose eggplant bc I found an awesome picture of flowers that were shades of purple. and 2 I have a 16 year old sister that is fair skin and blonde. Go for black!

My bridesmaids are wearing black dresses so I obviously think it's a good idea! My mom was unhappy with my decision until she saw some of the girls try on the dress. She was pleasantly surprised by how nice it looked (I am Greek Orthadox too). I think its classy, timeless and everyone looks good in it. My bridesmaids are thrilled to be wearing black!

Personally coming from a Greek Orthodox family myself (so is FH) I would seriously be dead if i did this I think they're beautiful, but i agree with your mom that i just dont like black bm dresses for a wedding, JMHO though... if you really cant find anything that you like than order them, its better to have something you like than you hate! that dress is GORGEOUS!

i love black - like LOOVE black and i have an unhealthy obsession with it

i am having black BM dresses and i am having a black and white/ivory wedding and it's going to be black tie so, i'm biased, but i love the idea

That's so funny, im embarrassed to admit i feel the same way about black. i do have many clothes that are pretty colors (always solid, nothing printed/striped/polka-dotted) but for some reason i always gravitate towards black. it feels sort of like a safety net to me. black always looks good on everybody. ive been crunching my brain the entire weekend about colors for this dress and NOTHING is appealing to me. i probably am using it as a safety net though, now that i think about it. Thanks Stef! Maybe it's time to go bold

I'm happy you empathize with me. Stef's post also made me realize that I'm clinging to black as a safety net. It's definately possible to go with another color if I allow myself to....BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD! THANKS GIRLS!!!
