Black tie optional: please post pics of...

Original post by Im a Pepper

...what you might wear to a wedding that's Black Tie optional. Nothing I have laying around fits the bill. What can I buy for a wedding that's black tie optional that has a chance of being worn again at another event?
TIA!

I would wear either a true black tie dress (floor length, very formal looking) or, because it is opitional, a classy looking shorter dress (like knee length). I had a similar issue at a recent wedding. I don't like long dresses, so I got a black and white off the shoulder dress that was about knee length. It really worked well.

if it is optional, any black cocktail dress will due, just not something you would wear to work or a work affair. To be black tie I would wear a black gown. Anything from Lord & Taylor, even estelles..

We're going to a wedding this weekend that is not black tie but we are all wearing black gowns because we have them. YOu can always wear them again.

I just went to Estelle's recently and oh my gosh has it changed since I've been there last (not that long ago it seemed like) the quality and type of dress is not anywhere near their prior standard.

but to answer the post directly... I would go with a floor length gown as that's what black tie means... remember you can always get a long dress shortened by a tailor!

its black tie optional not black tie so you dont have to wear a floor length gown. But of course definitely dress up, a nice very dressy cocktail dress will be fine. I went to a black tie optional wedding recently and i was going to wear a long gown but thank god i didnt bc almost NOBODY did lol. If it was black tie or even black tie preferred then thats when you would have to wear a floor length gown

for guys they can wear a nice black suit.

Here is what i wore to a wedding recently that was black tie optional

I love your dress and how great is it that you were able to wear your wedding shoes again? Those Manolos are hot!

White House/Black Market would be a good place to find a nice dress.

For black tie optional you can definitely wear a cocktail dress. I wore a shorter cocktail dress for a black tie wedding...it was not optional. People don't tend to feel the need to wear long gowns to weddings anymore. I would say about 75% of the girls at the black tie wedding I was at, were wearing shorter cocktail dresses.

I would definitely try Lord and Taylor!
