I have a wedding in August that is black tie. Can FH wear a black suit? IMO I think it is so rude to do black tie and expect the guests to rent tuxes, etc but I don't want FH to feel out of place either.

Re: Black Tie Question
I must agree:
Black Tie = tux for the gent, dress that hits the floor for the lady
Black Tie Requested = tux or dark suit for the gent and, if he's in black tie, then she's in a dress that hits the floor. If he chooses to wear a dark suit, then she may wear a wedding appropriate cocktail dress.
White Tie = the most formal of formal, tux with white pique inset for the gent, and evening gown for the lady.
To echo what someone else wrote above, there are those for whom Black Tie is a complete cinch, they attend many formal functions and the tux is just part of their wardrobe -- they don't even think twice about it. It's not obnoxious, it just depends on what one is accustomed to. No biggie. Personally, I love to get dressed up!!
