Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
Hi Jenn,You just call & say you'd like to block 3 or 4 rooms(they may ask you to block more to get a group rate)usually they hold the rooms at the reduced rate for 30 days prior to your wedding. Nobody gets charged if they don't get booked.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
Many of the hotels I called made you block a minimum of 10 rooms. It is no big deal b/c no one is charged if they do not book up.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
The hotel gave a group rate card with all important info on it. It was really ugly so I only included it in the invites that i knew would need it. I'm sure you could print up something nice if you have time.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
Be careful with this...only some hotels are flexible with room block minimums. If you only need 3-4 rooms, they may not grant you a group rate. Also, some hotels will charge your guests a regular rate if less than 10 total rooms end up being booked. Lastly, some larger hotel chains (like Marriott, Hyatt or Sheraton) do require you to be responsible for a percentage of the cost of rooms that are not booked, regardless of whether they are 'released' from the room block 30 days prior.Ask a lot of questions and call several hotels to be sure that you are getting the best deal. I used the Hampton Inn in Commack for my out of town guests and they were great.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
I called the hotel near my reception hall and blocked 20 rooms (that's the most I could block at one time). The hotel sent me info cards that I will put in my invites, the guests have 5 wks before the wedding to book rooms.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
We booked 15 rooms from Radisson, but we were not responsible for anything if guests didn't book them. Good thing, because only 8 rooms were booked! The guests had to book rooms by a certain date, and afterwards they were released to the public again. We had our printer type up a note explaining this, 'For your convenience, we have reserved a block of rooms at blah, blah, blah' Just be sure to tell them to refer to the Smith and Jone wedding, and call by their response date.
