From what I've heard on here I think about a year before if not then even closer to your date. I remember a few brides posting that they attempted to do it and the hotels told them to check back when it's closer. However my fsil did this about 2 months ago and her wedding is July 2010, so I guess it can't hurt to check.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
I did mine in February. You can do it as soon as the Hotel will let you. Just call the Hotels that you are interested in and ask how early they will do this

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
hmm i dunno...im confused
i was at a bridal expo and a rep from the Four Points Sheraton said to do it about 1 year in advance esp if your wedding is at a peak time
then fh and i stopped into the Four Points Sheraton 2 weeks ago to see it and the woman told us not to book until next fall....which seems way too late

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
We are going to do it at the end of this summer, so about a year before hand.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
I started looking into it about a month ago. We are still looking and will probably decide in the upcoming month or two

yup this happened to me when i started calling around november, most hotel rates come out a year in advance...however you can call now to at least get the information and if they don't have rates yet they can at least give u last years rate so you have an amount to go by.

One of the 2009 brides said to do it 6-8 months before

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
we did ours last month. like others said, the hotels usually release the prices a year before. the sooner the better if you have alot of OOT. you can also mail out the cards before hand to the OOT to give them a heads up

ITA....9 - 12 months out. When you get quotes from them, also check hotels.com to compare rates. Sometimes they are a lot cheaper.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
I am actually trying to do this right now. I went to look at the hotels last week and made a decision yesterday. Now, I am just have to get the contract.
i'm using a hilton, and i don't have to pay anything. not sure about other hotels though

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
i did this a little under a year before. Like 11 months. Most places gave me the info before like how many rooms you can block and what it includes but they told me to call for prices at a later date. this way you can figure out which hotel works best for you in advance and call for prices later.

Do you have to pay anything up front?
some yes some no. most places give you a curtesy block of 10 rooms for nothing anything more requires a cc deposit. What i did is my hotel gave me 15 rooms w/o a deposit and then said if i needed more we could add. so i am telling people to book ASAP so I can add the rooms sooner rather then later!

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
'09er crashing...
I booked the block in early February this year... my wedding is this July. So basically 5 months before, and I had no problem. I guess I'm a little off-peak though so that might be helping.
I was able to get the first 15 rooms with no guarrantee. Anything over that if I wanted to reserve, I'd be obligated for half of it. I was going to do 25 rooms, but I got worried about having to guarrantee 13 be filled, so I thought I'd just do 15 (if 13 was worrying me, I thought 15 was fine to start). If they have rooms available, I can always add to the block.
Now that invites are out, I should check and see how it's going and if any are booked yet. I wonder how I do that...

Oh okay good - I don't think we'll need more than 10. Not too many OOTs...

I like this idea...I should get a move on this.

Re: Blocking Hotel Rooms
Has anyone blocked rooms at the Inn at Fox Hollow? If so, do they require a fee upfront? Thanks in advance! I keep meaning to call them but have been so busy!
