Did anyone block hotels in Manhattan? Where did you block and how much is it?
We have a a few friends coming in from out of town and I don't think they will want to stay in Long Island. We are providing busses from LI to NYC and maybe to the wedding too. We also need a hotel that has wheelchair accessibility.
Any suggestions?

Re: Blocking hotels in Manhattan
FYI- From August 30th to September 3, the Republican Convention will be at Madison Square Garden. If you want your guests to stay near Penn Station, block hotels now, or you may want to expand your search. I am currently looking at hotels for blocks. I am using both NYCVisit website, www.nycvisit.com, and calling around to get rates. As for rates, it depends on the hotel. I contacted the Southgate Hotel near Penn Station and their rate for the first weekend in August was $219 a night versus Hotel Belleclaire near the Museum of Natural History which has a deal of $89.95 a night. Another good website to check out is www.hotels.newyork.com
Good luck!

Re: Blocking hotels in Manhattan
Just to inform you the Penn Plaza Hotel is booked for the Convention. They have been booked for over a year now. you will have to try something further up. I have booked the Howard Johnson located at 851 Eighth Ave 212-581-4100. It is not in the heart on downtown like the Penn, but my guest can still get around. If it is nice outside they can walk to Macy's if they like. I needed something in the downtown area because I'm not going to have time to entertain. They will be able to sight see if they like with no problems. The hotel stated they would make a package for my guest.

We blocked two hotels in Times Square. Best Western President at $115/night and The Paramount at $195/night. We have a lot of out of town guests!

Re: Blocking hotels in Manhattan
I just went to a Party that a friend booked a hotel suite via internet and the room was great. They got a one bedroom suite with kitchen/living room bath and desk area, it was modern decor, the suite was I think $250 - so if you check out the rooms they might be $150, It's The Alex Hotel located on 45th between 3rd and second - convenient to the midtown tunnel, 59th street bridge -I was very impressed! you will see the rooms on the internet, you should pick a location closer to the east side rather than Penn Station so it doesn't take a half hour to get out of the city to get to LI.
