I was just wondering, what is the need for blocking rooms? What I mean is, my reception is on LI, our guest list pretty much consists of people from Queens and LI. I'm not sure if I am supposed to block rooms or not! Are you girls doing this anyway even if your guestlist does not consist 'real' out of towners??? I'm confused. I'm getting married at Fox Hollow... Is it stupid that I don't block rooms considering the Inn is literally across the parking lot???
Opinions needed please!

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
I blocked rooms at only one hotel. There is not fee to you for blocking room (and if a hotel tries to charge you, go to another one, because most don't) The rooms are held in your name, usually until 1 month (to the date) before the wedding. then they revert to the general public. Will your guests get a room even if you don't block/ - probably, but if theres no charge to you why no make the block?
Tell as many people as you want that the rooms are avialable, and that they will be released a month before. We've been invited to a few out of town functions, and its becomming pretty common.

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
Adding
The rooms don't have to be for out of towners. Many of our friends are staying over to party afterwards (the wedding is in Long Beach on a holiday weekend)

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
Mine had only 2 people from CA and a couple from VT and NH. The rest were from LI, Queens, Brooklyn, SI and NJ. I provided shuttle service from the hotel and hall and picked a very reasonable priced hotel ($109 was the block price normally over $135). Wound up 25 rooms were booked! We never expected that many. It was mostly friends who wanted to drink!
Each hotel is different. For mine - You can block as many rooms as you want. They held them until a month before the wedding. Even if you call after that as long as the hotel had availabilty or if your block was filled the guests got the reduced rate. I didn't have to go to the hotel or put down a cc.

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
Hi- I blocked 25 rooms, but I am getting married New Years Eve. So I really had too. I think it is a good idea even if your guests are not out-of-towners. You never know, there may be a convention or some sort of BIG EVenT and there are no hotel rooms that night. JUst to be safe, I would reserve some. GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
We booked rooms at the Holdiay Inn in Plainview and it was great. Did not have to give a credit card #, or commit to a certain # of rooms. After the wedding when we got back to the hotel they kept the bar open so we could continue the party

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
Thanks ladies!!! I guess I will have to discuss with FH! I think it's a great idea, I just wasn't sure how necessary it was... And since the hotel is RIGHT across the parking lot, I guess, why not!
Thanks again!

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
OctBride03- I'm staying at the Inn at fox hollow for my wedding night and I know my MOH wants to too,so I'm blocking rooms there in case any other bridal members want to stay. I would book that now because When she got married at fox hollow they told her to book immediatly rooms where already being booked and it wasn't even open yet. Then I will also block rooms at Fairfield inn and maybe the Executive Inn at woodbury because I have people coming from CT, PA,AZ and FL about 5 or 6 families but you never know. FH family from brooklyn might want to stay over. I figured I rather be safe than sorry and give them a couple of choices of where to stay.

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
I blocked off some rooms at the Executive Inn as well. Although we absolutely have out of towners. I need about 2 more hotels I have to go search the neighborhood- where is Fairfield Inn? Woodbury?

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
Some hotels (I called many) do not hold a calendar more than a year in advance...

Re: Blocking Rooms Question
Bridetobe - Which hotel did you block at? $109 a room is very reasonable. Wingate quoted me $139 and I have to give a credit card. We are getting married at Jericho Terrace. Thanks!
