So I want to start doing this but I have a question.
Is it normal for the bridal store to carry the dresses?
I really need to see the color and know how the fabric feels.
What am I in for?

most places won't have the same dress in every color. For example i ordered the bill levkoff 907 which is in store in black. My bms all loved it and so we agreed. They showed me swatches of all his colors so I could pick which color I wanted... you may want to find a dress and call around and see if anyone has a sample in that color to see if you can find it, but thats a lot of work.

also... they had dresses in my color, but not my exact dress so she showed me those to see how the color would be... that may work too.

They'll have samples just like with wedding dresses. They may not have the dress in the color you're looking for, but they have books with color swatches and different fabric options, if there are any.
