Re: Book Club Meeting!

I am hoping that Travis turns out to be a good guy. I am really wondering what happened in the beginning when he was going to the hospital and he doesn't know how things got like this. I am assuming it is about Gabby.

Yeah, and i have a feeling that the boyfriend is going to be a very likeable character....

just like he had in the notebook, the army fiance... he was a nice guy.... and you really feel bad...

I kind of got the feeling at first that we were supposed to like him but then when he was nice after the whole Molly birth drama, he began to sound a little like a good guy. But wouldn't staying with her, or at least offering, be something that was at least expected?

In my case, its rare haha...my ex boyfriend missed my grandfathers funeral because he was pledging for his frat at the time and he 'just couldnt'

Mind you... my grandfahter raised me...so he was like my dad...and did not pass from old age...

so to me, i took the character as a genuine guy who seems as though he may not be ready to settle?

Oh yuck to your exboyfriend! I guess I'm doubtful of people at times in terms of Kevin actually being a nice guy. But really, we can't be mad at him for not committing because Gabby won't open her mouth!

Don't you feel like the wives of Travis' friends when you're around fh's friends? I'm always trying to figure out why some seemingly nice guys can't stick it out with girls!

Im the last t be married out of all his friends... theyre all older, even my own... all have kids already and are married...

but, i think that nick may have put that in there to make it clear and straight to the point that he was older, and not settled...

because they never really say his age, but you assume hes in his 30s around...

Either that or is very picky, but he does seem to care...about everyone in his life.

I want to see how Gabby opens up. it seems so far that she's either done everything out of obligation or 'just because.' Where Travis seems to live his life very relaxed.

I loved the conversation they had when he invited her over for Saturday and she was telling him how she has a boyfriend and loves him...like it was a mortal sin to go over to a neighbor's house. She got so stressed about it, while Travis was like 'no big deal'.

I have a feeling that Sparks is setting up the whole 'opposites attract' scenario like Gabby's parents.

I am suspicious of Kevin.....I hate that his name is Kevin becuase that is FH name.

could his business trip really be a business trip?????

That does make sense.
I am eager to keep reading to find out more about the characters, especially his sister. I feel like Travis may compare his women to his sister. Just a speculation.

I got that feeling too, but I'm not a fan of his sister, im not sure why, maybe 'cause she's very abrupt.

Oh absolutely... especially in the comparison of the two... p25 But there the similarities with his sister ended. While Stephanie had grown up to become a certifiable beauty, Gabby was attractive in a simialr but not quite perfect kind of way....I was like waaaaaaaaaait a second, tell me Travis isn't the one thinking this. I think it was more narration than Travis' thoughts.

definitely agree on the 'opposites attract' thing with Travis and Gabby

Re: Book Club Meeting!

did anyone else catch this:

When he was sitting eating his turkey thinking about how much he loved doing whatever he wanted when he wanted, when he was siting at the beach.... he didnt mention anyone else around...except gabby

and then when gabby was home alone she considered sitting with a glass of wineby the water and then worried that she couldnt because 'what people would think'

Wait a second... no reading ahead!!! Only up to chapter 6! Don't ruin it for us who have only read the required number!

I'm not suspicious of kevin. I think he may just be a clueless guy caught up in his career. Not really taking Gabby for granted, but just happy with the status quo. But I don't think Gabby is happy with that and that's what makes Travis so appealing.

I dont think shes happy either actually....

i think she is comfortable

Oh crap! Sorry!!! I thought for sure that was the end of p. 66. SORRY!!!!! (As you can tell, I really got into the book last night!)

I think gabby is just 'settling' with kevin, hes the 'safe choice' for her

Nelle5757 Posted:

Re: Book Club Meeting!

True, I agree with that too. I guess I am trying to figure out how gabby and travis get together (assuming they do). How terrible of me, I assume the boyfriend does something horrible. I think him being wrapped up in his career is a good play.

Re: Book Club Meeting!

yes we agree! she is just settleing

Nelle5757 Posted:

Re: Book Club Meeting!

settling and she is telling herself or trying to convince herself she is in love with kevin.

Re: Book Club Meeting!

i hope he doesnt cheat on her though and that his business trip is just a business trip...
