We just set our date for November 8, 2014 at Westbury Manor! I am so excited (and somewhat relieved)! Yay! So we have a little over a year. I'm pretty sure I can relax on the planning for a bit, but my planner personality is already thinking of what I should be doing next and when... What is/was your timeline on booking the vendors (DJ/band, photographer, etc), hotel blocks, dress, etc? How far in advance do I have to do these things or am I already thinking too far in advance? Lol. Thanks!

I don't think it is too far in advance to start looking for DJ/band photographer. They book up quick, especially the good ones. I'd start looking now if you have the time/money for deposits.

I am in the same boat as you, wondering what's too soon. But I started panicking like, what if the people I want (dj/photog/etc) get booked for my date?!? so i started making appts already. I don't think it's too soon.

Yay! Congrats! If you have an idea of who you want to use for your vendors, I would do them ASAP. We booked ours almost 2 years before our wedding and still weren't able to get everyone we wanted (luckily, it ended up working out for the better).

I agree w/ everyone else... after our venue was booked, we went about 1-2 weeks later and booked our band. Then after that we did photographer, then video. Last we did florist and limos. We have all vendors booked and we are almost at 1 year out.

I still have just over 2 years to go and after the venue about a month later we met with photo, video and dj and booked all 3. Some vendors we were looking into were already booked for 2016 which I thought was crazy!

I agree with this.. the DJ I originally wanted to book with was booked for my date and it was like 14 months ahead of time! I love the DJ i booked with (Bravura!), but I would definitely start looking around now.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I need to get on with booking the major vendors pretty soon--I already looked into bands, my next step is photographers...I'll probably end up posting for recommendations on those too. :) This site has bene so helpful so far!

I'll be turning 29 that day and on my honeymoon! So I may be biased when I say....great date!! Congrats!
What we did first was book the DJ and photographer/videographer around the same week. We booked our venue August 5th and then within the same month, we did that. We met with our florist but it's too early really to be telling them exactly what we want. Ours told us to come back after Valentine's Day, lol. What else, what else. If you're having a ceremony in a church, meet with the priest/officiant marrying you and secure the date and get the pre-Cana info. The dress I got pretty early. I started looking at the end of August and bought mine in early September!

Just like the majority I would say to start looking into booking. Unfortunately in the wedding business, most vendors can only do one event at a time so I would start looking now. DJ, photographer, florist. Those would be my main three.
Also check with the church for Pre-cana and everything else you need to do if you are doing a church wedding.
And start your dress shopping if you'd like. It usually takes 6 months for a dress to come in once ordered, then you have alterations. So I would say to definitely get that done within the 8 month mark the latest.
