Re: Booking RH before Church
I believe my sister had this issue. She was able to tentatively reserve the date at the hall, with several other 'backup dates'. Luckily the church was available for the day she wanted. They hall told her which dates were also available should the church not be able to accomodate. She could have changed the contract for any of those dates if necessary.

Re: Booking RH before Church
That is what i thought I can do just save a date for now with the RH and if it changes based on the church they can give me a different day.
We are getting married on a SUnday. Does anyone know if they will give me a problem with having our ceromony at 3, 3:30?

I booked my Hall before the church. I was so nervous to call the church after I booked, but Luckily the date was open. If it wasnt we would have gone to my DH church.

they told me they only have 2 weddings for 2010 and they are both in the summer. I am kind of not worried bc i am not getting married at my parish church anyway so i can always pick another church.

Re: Booking RH before Church
are you sure you can get married in your church on a Sunday? don't know if you are Catholic or not, but most RC churches will not allow weddings to take place on a Sunday.
eta for a typo.

I don't think that is true because I have been to a wedding on a Sunday and they got married in a church. I also have one in Nov on Sunday and they as well are getting married in a church. I know they were both Catholic

Re: Booking RH before Church
I booked the RH before the church and was nervous as well, but the church took 2 weeks to get back to me! When I finally spoke with the church and met with the deacon to reserve the date they had every weekend open in September! They def do not fill up as fast as RH's... you should be fine. Worst case scenario you have to switch the date with your RH or find another church.

Re: Booking RH before Church
oh yeah, i definitely booked the hall BEFORE i had the church. My church was taking their sweet time giving me an answer and I couldn't wait any longer or the hall wouldn't be available. It worked out fine.

I said 'most' (though i typoed it and wrote 'more'). Many parishes do not allow it b/c of their mass schedule or scheduled baptisms.
My point was to check with your parish first before locking in your date with the RH. For all you know, there may be another wedding on your date at the time you wanted.

I would assume that it definitely depends on the TIME. If church is in progress (like you're going for a morning ceremony) it would probably be an issue. I doubt any church would allow a wedding to be in place of their services. But they most definitely do ceremonies after church lets out. I've been to quite a few of those. In fact, I'm IN a wedding next month that's gonna be on a Sunday at 2:30 (our church lets out at 12) so it's fine.

Re: Booking RH before Church
I booked my RH first, then the church. I figured my wedding is far away enough that they would have the date open anyway.. if not then i'd just go to FH's parish

If you have your heart set on a particular church, I would just book that first.. then book your RH after.

Re: Booking RH before Church
I booked my hall a year prior to booking the church, we both wanted a religious ceremony but if it was booked we were able to change the date to accomodate that

Most will NOT do a ceremony or mass on sunday and if they do you usually wind up with a weird time~have you spoken to them about sunday?
This also depends on the size of the parish and the mass schedule for sundays

Re: Booking RH before Church
I booked my RH before the church and I am now suffering the consequences...my church didn't have my date available and neither did my mom's church. Now we're on to my FH's church and I'm praying that they have our date available...I feel like I've been church shopping
I'm sure that won't be the case with you, but make sure that you find out if they hold wedding ceremonies on Sundays and if so, what times they have available.

This is not true. I have been to many, many weddings on a Sunday including my son's. They just have to take place in the afternoon after all the Sunday morning masses. The only other thing that might stop them from having the wedding is if they are doing baptisms that Sunday otherwise weddings are allowed on Sundays.
