Re: Booking RH before Church

Thank you everyone. I found my answer out.

The church I wanted only does them at 4 with no mass. I only wanted the ceromony so that was fine except that time is too late

Now I made an appt with another church on Tues but I am just going to book my RH today becuase I don't want to wait any longer.

Actually, FH and I booked the RH and then went for the appt. with our church. Luckily because we were about 18 months out we were able to get the date without a problem. Our RH had every weekend booked in June '09 except for our date (they even showed us their books!!) and I didn't want to risk losing the hall...but luckily it worked out for us.

My priest would only do weddings until 2:00pm we are going woth the Deegan at 4:00

We told the RH to hold the date until we heard back from the Church

Re: Booking RH before Church

My family always said never to book the RH before the Chruch, because it is not proper.

Well, I feel bad, but I kinda did that. I went to the RH to see what dates they had available. I picked the 22nd, without even confirming with my church if they had it available.

Luckily, they did.

here are 2 catholic churches that perform ceremonies at times you want if it helps - -

St Frances de Chantal in Wantagh does weddings on Sun at 3;30.

Maria Regina in Seaford does them Sun at 3pm . this church will accept non parishoners. not sure about St Frances.

I booked the Church first. I went to the reception hall and picked a tentative date....they said they would put a hold on it until I could get in touch with the Church. Luckily for me, the Church was settled within 2 weeks so I booked the Church and the next day I went and officially booked the reception hall.

You can get married in most Churches on Sunday, but you cannot have a Mass. It can only be a ceremony.

it depends on the pastor of the church some churches wont do sunday weddings so I woulf first call up the church and see if they allow sunday weddings but I too booked my hall b4 the church and it worked out fine.

We did, but we didn't 'have' to get married in a certain church bc FH is the one who is catholic but he is from upstate so we obviously couldn't have it in his church. Our priest is really young and cool so he didn't bat an eye when we told him. In fact, he said, 'I don't blame you!' haha! I love our priest!

We booked our hall before our church and it turned out fine. We're also getting married on a Sunday, and because of baptisms we have to have the ceremony (no mass) at 4. The timing is great for us because we have just enough time to go to the hall and take pictures and our CH starts at 7.

I would definitely book the hall, you'll find a church eventually. Good luck!

Re: Booking RH before Church

I booked my RH before the church. I booked back in Feb. of this year. When I went to the church it turns out they didnt even HAVE a book for 2010.

I would def. make sure with your church though because some of my older relatives think the church doesnt marry people during lent? So depending what your religion is you might want to check that out!

Good luck

OMG BIG mistake. I did that mistake and am suffering for it. I just didn't know better and obviously joined the forum to late to inquire.

JMO

I would wait unless you had a great relationship with your church and it's def that you'll have your date!

Re: Booking RH before Church

I booked my RH two months ago and I still don't have a church. :( I've called my church numerous times but I can't get anyone to call me back. I doubt I can get married there anyway becuase it's an RC church any my FH is twice divorced with no annulments. Anyone know if I could get married at a Methodist church?

Re: Booking RH before Church

Because we got engaged in May of 2008 for a 2010 wedding. We booked our RH first (shhh... don't tell my priest!) We are the only 2010 wedding booked right now, I have a small parish so I worried about it, but my RH told me I could change the date if I needed to without charge... and we weren't set on a particular date so it all worked out.

We booked the RH in June the church three weeks later in July. My priest didn't ask if we had booked the hall, and he was so excited to have 'young people' come back to the church... it was all good.

I booked the rh first, but I had called the church and they told me they had the date open and penciled us in until we could actually meet with the priest.

I did the hall before the church. I cant see it being a problem....If anything, have the hall tell you when they are available and then call the church that same night/weekend...
