I am not doing bouquet or garter toss. I just personally don't like the idea, especially when it involves my fiance's drunk friends. We are doing the anniversary dance instead.

We're doing it. I caught the boo-k at my girlfriends wedding, she caught it her cousions wedding, and I think she told me her cousion caught it at a wedding she went to.! I feel like I can't break the chain. I don't think its cheesy I think that if people don't want to do it then they don't have to.

I think it depends on how old you are and the age of the girls and guys at the wedding. Do you have a lot of single people? I know when I was 28 and up , I used to hide in the bathroom during the tosses because I really thought it was degrading to have to participate. When my wedding came around I compromised with my husband and we did the garter removal and presented both the garter and bo-k to the most deserving couple (I had a special situation at my wedding). That way we did some of it, but avoided herding the single girls to the dance floor to fight over a bo-k. JMO, take it or leave it

Crystal...

I voted for both.. we did TOSS both, we just didnt follow through witht he whole -putting-the-garter-on-the-person-who-caught-it Tradition... We had a ton of singles there, ranging from my FIL down to my VIRGIN CHRISTIAN BM!!! LOL The worst scenario I could create was either the two of them or My 18 yr old cousin and Brians Grandma!!! LOL...

We had the people who caught both of them dance together with us.. It was great.. And the guy who caught the garter ( our Bestman ) even made it funny cause he put the garter on my girlfriends arm as they danced!!! LOL It worked out well, and we got a bunch of good comments on it!

Th only reason we are not doing it is because we do not have any single people in the right age group.

I'm not really doing it. But we are including the garter and the bo-k. I always hated doing it when I went to someone's wedding, but that's just me, so instead we are doing the anniversary dance and then asking the woman married the longest to take the bo-k and the man married the longest to put the bo-k on his wife's leg.

I am definitley doing both. I have waited a long time to do them. Plus, i will have a lot of young, single people there, so I don't think they will be uncomfortable. However, I don't plan on dragging anyone out there to participate. I have been to weddings where people have pushed and pulled me out onto the floor to catch the bouquet, and boy was that embarrasing and depressing back then.

I love the garter and boquet toss - i think it is fun!

The anniversary dance is cool too and it is funny to see the guy put the garter on his wife since usually it is a cute little old couple.

we are doing an anniversary dance as well . I think it is a good way to include everyone and to graciously give them to someone who is like a role model to what we would like to be when we get to their status. Plus you never know they just might get SOME when they get home!

Re: Boquet and garter toss

I'm pretty sure I'm doing both. I don't have THAT many singles coming but I think my mostly single (all except one) BMs would kill me if I didn't. And I like the tradition as much as I hated being forced to stand there and intentionally miss the bouquet when I was a guest! LOL We might not do the whole putting it on the girls leg part though since there's a very good chance the catchers may be related! (Most of the singles are on my side of the family)

Re: Boquet and garter toss

I always HATED going up as a single woman...so I would never subject people to that...

and I think the idea of the anniversary dance (which we did instead) is so sweet...it celebrates marriage...

my neighbors from growing up won...they have been married for 58 years...the husband said to DH 'the first 50 years are the toughest' it was just precious...and to think that might never have happened...
(we just gave the wife the bo-k....not garter at all)

at my sisters wedding my BILs aunt and uncle won...(our neighbors sat out) and a month later the wife died...ugh it was so sad...but so nice that their marriage was celebrated right before...

We don't have many singles either, we are skipping both.
The anniversary dance sounds like good idea!

We have decided not to do the Bo-K and garter toss because I think it makes people feel uncomfortable. At least i always did when I went to a wedding. They wont miss it much.

Re: Boquet and garter toss

We did the bouquet toss and the garter toss but I did not have the guy put the garter on the girls leg. I told all single friends before hand that I was going to do this so they all got up and they didn't have to be embarrassed. My 8 year old cousin caught it anyway and that would have been disgusting!
I also dedicated another bouquet to a couple that was married 30 years the day after our wedding and had them dance and then all couples joined in.

We did this too and everyone LOVED it!!!! He took the garter off me. There was an anniversary dance. The longest married couple got the bouquet and garter and he put the garter on her leg....it was great!!!
