Bra Shopping!

Bra Shopping!

So this week I am going to start shopping for undergarments, and I don't quite know where to begin! I always have difficulty finding bras to fit me, and so I already know what I'm up against!

I'm a very small A-cup and I'm wearing a strapless dress. Bras never seem to fit properly because I am so small chested so I suggested to my fiance that I should consider an adhesive bra - he was very much against the idea of having to help me tear off an oversized bandaid from my chest after the wedding, as he put it. The dress is also very tight to the body (dropped empire waist) so my sister suggested a wire supported corset to keep my bra from slipping and tighten my waist at the same time, but that sounds so uncomfortable and rigid.

Any advice? I'm going to shopping around NYC shops this week so if you know of any good shops in the city, just let me know

Make an appointment at BraTenders (http://www.bratenders.com), Lingerie & Company on 3rd Ave near 70th or Girly New York (girlynyc.com) to fit you properly for what you need. If you are looking for a very large list and locations, New York Magazine has a great list of lingerie shops posted online.

Good Luck and try to have fun with it!

also Orchard Street Corset is great and VERY reasonable. . they are on the lower east side

also edited to add: they have some nice slimmers there which are less bra-like but just make a nicer line and obviously slim a bit - that's what I'm doing b/c I'm in the same situation as you (dress and cup size )

It isn't in NYC but Blums in Patchogue is great

I'd also suggest going somewhere they can fit you. It will cost a little extra but will be SO worth it.

I know you said you'd be looking in the city, but I'd recommend Blum's in Patchogue. They carry an entire line of bridal lingerie and can really help find exactly what you need.

You may not need to wear a bra at all with your dresss. I didn't and I'm a B (barely). If you need a little extra definition, they can sew cups into the dress for you. You'll probably be a lot more comfortable without a bra, not having to worry about always constantly adjusting it.

I agree, see if they can sew cups into your dress. I didnt wear a bra, and I am a D. The cups were perfect. I was comfortable all night. The corset back held me in perfectly.

I really liked bratenders. I also went to the shop in Hicksville where they were super super nice, but bratenders seemed to have the best stock.

Why not just get cupped added into your dress when you get the alterations done?

I would go braless. Pronovias insisted that Iwear a corset. Well I bought one and they deicded to sew it into the dress. Well the day of the wedding I was in so much pain all day from the corset, the bones going down the stomach and the ones in between the chest were so painful. During the wedding my DOC was even trying to figure out how to cut it out or not close it to make me feel more comfortable. If I had to do it again I would go braless.

Good luck.
Oh and I bought my bra at Nordstroms.

Check out Georgettes In LI, I went this weekend and found my undergarments. Pretty reasonable.

I'm kind of scared about falling out of my dress. I fall out of all my bras because nothing is small enough for me, and I am hoping for at least a little extra definition.

I'm afraid if I just had something sewn in that wasn't really tight to the body I'd bend over at one point and show my guests way more than they wanted to see
