Bridal dress ?

Bridal dress ?

Hi Ladies,

I have a few, maybe naive, questions about buying the wedding gown.

1. I am in love with Alfred Angelo dresses but I noticed not many bridal shops carry them. The ones I did find didn't seem to have the dresses I am looking to try on on their websites. Is that all they carry or do they have more in the actual stores? If it is all they have, do you think they would order a sample for me to try on?

2. Once I find the perfect dress whats the criteria for paying for it? Do you have to pay all at once or can it be paid off as you go? Do they keep the dress there once it comes in (and is paid for) or do you take it with you?

TIA :)

I don't have any info on the selection of dresses but can maybe help with some payment info. I think each place is different but to give you an idea...I put a $100 down to secure the trunk show sale price (15%off). Then I went back 2 months later (when my Mom could go) and had to put half down to order the dress. Dress already came in, and in the contract it says you have to inspect the dress and pay the balance within 2 weeks of it coming in. I was shocked at how quickly my dress came in. I was told 6-9 months & it came in in 3 months! They store the dress for you. Same for headpiece and veil. Half down for them to place the order. Balance due when it comes in. My place lends you a headpiece & veil for hair trials. Alterations charges are later, not fixed into the price. HTH!

I don't know about all salons, but Bridal Suite of Bayshore offered to order a gown for me, and I didn't even go into the salon. I called about a certain Maggie and they said they'd borrow the sample for me. So, I'd guess that many salons would be willing to do the same!

Re: Bridal dress ?

I had a big headache when I was looking for a particular Alfred Angelo dress. I traveled all over and some places would tell me they had the dress and they didn't. One place in Brooklyn told me they had it, she assured me she was looking at the dress and then when I came in she told me she had lied and that she meant they can order the dress for me if I decide to buy it and keep it. They basically just wanted my business. So I would be very careful.

For the dress I ended up getting, I bought the sample dress because it was cheaper and put $500 down. They haven't been specific about a payment plan and right now my dress is at the store in the back. I'll probably pay the dress off asap so I can bring it home and know it's safe,

Re: Bridal dress ?

I think every bridal salon has a different payment protocol, but normally for the dress to be ordered 50% had to be put down on the dress, some places will require more. The bridal salon I worked years ago had the brides pay their final balance at their first fitting or when they picked the dress up if they were not having alterations there. Everything ordered for the dress (hair piece, veil, slip, undergarments) were stored with the dress until the final pick-up.

I can answer the 2nd part of your question. I paid for half the dress when I bought it. I will pay the rest at the time of the fittings. My dress just came in last week and they will be storing the dress at the store for me until all my fittings are complete.
