Went there yesterday with my sister / MOH to look for a dress for her. I went because they carry Alfred Angelo and Bill Levkoff, two designers I wanted to look at for her. They had a lot of dresses, but nothing over a size 12, basically. Maybe like two 14s. I felt horrible because there was only one dress she could try on, and it was $260 so we said NAH.
I have a small frame but I am very sensitive to the fact that stores like this need to carry larger sizes. A lot of women are larger and how do you expoect them to decide on a dress if they can't try one on?? The woman said, we could order it for you in a larger size. So I said, oh, if we find a dress we like you can order it in her size to try it on? And she said no, you could order it and it would be hers. Oh yeah, we are going to PURCHASE a dress she never even tried on.
My sister keeps things inside and it didn't look like it bothered her, but I think deep down it may have.

Thats s*cks, considering everyone has different body types and a womans dress shop should definetly be accomodating to all shapes and sizes. Not to mention alot of bm dresses run small so the average size is usually larger than what you would wear normally.

Oh, I was going to take her to RK. I guess they don't have larger sizes either?? I thought it was a big place, with lots lof dresses ... meaning they would have a lot of sizes ...
I guess we will go back to David's.

That happened to us at one store we went to, one of my cousins is a size 18 in street clothes, and we didn't know what size to order her in a specific dress, because they didn't have it at all. So they had her try on the ONE dress they have in a size 24, it was SWIMMING on her. And they told us to get that dress because it looks good on 'plus size girls'. I thought my cousin would cry!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them. I ordered my BM dresses there and love them. I think the problem might be that it is a smaller store so they don't have a lot in stock.

I'm sorry that happened...at least they carried up to size 12!! I went to a slew of stores that didn't even have a size 10 for bridesmaids to try on!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I personally loved them and ordered my gown from them. They are a small store and do have a limited selection. Is she much larger than a 12? Maybe she could try on the dresses just not zip them? I don't know just a suggestion. Estelle's in farmingdale has a wedding dept and are probably more likely to have a variety of sizes.

Re: Bridal Garden in Bethpage - thumbs down
I TOTALLY understand. One of my BMs was very heavy at the time we tried on dresses. She was devestated and acted so aloof - refused to try anything on b/c they had no samples over a 12. Lucky for me, the woman who was working with us was A DOLL - she said all the right things and made my BMs day. She measured her and said 'you know you're a perfect hour glass - small waist and same on the bust as you are on the hips' - my BM was GLOWING over this remark. Then later when she was being rung up, the woman asked for her license and she commented on what a beautiful license photo it was. Right after that she said 'you know hun, it would be GREAT if you put on the sample - we know it won't zip, but it's because you are so well endowed on top so don't worry about it.' My BM didn't even flinch, she said OK LET'S PUT IT ON!! Thank God for this saleswoman!
Literally immediately after this my BM was diagnosed w/PCOS, which is the explanation for her weight apparently. She has since gone on meds and dropped THIRTY POUNDS. Good for her - but bad for that dress! We went back to try it on recently and it won't even stay up, they are going to have to alter this thing so much - but it's so great for her self esteem and I am so glad for her.
Sorry for my rambling, but bottom line - lucky I had a nice sales girl, but it shouldn't have come to that - they should have larger samples because the average woman is a size 14, and in BM dresses that can be even more like a 16 or 18.
