Disclaimer: I am simply asking a question, I'm not looking for 'IMO it's tacky not to' etc....Thanks in advance.
If you have ever been in a bridal party - did you not give a gift to the bride and groom?
Are the attendants supposed to give a gift or are they not expected to?

Yes, you should give a gift if you are in someone's wedding party. IMHO, if you cannot afford to give a gift AND be in the wedding party, then you should politely decline being in the wedding party. Just IMHO.
That said, I was in a wedding last year, and the bride confided in me that at least 2 (possibly 3, I can't remember) of her 9 bridesmaids did not give any gift whatsoever.

When I'm in the BP, I give even more than I do when I'm a regular guest.
I did the same thing! But is def. is not expected to be that way it is just a personal preference

I gave them a check... i think the most usefull thing to a newly wed couple starting out.. especially if they had expenses in the wedding

We didn't get a gift from 2 of our GM. But like the other posts have said...it happens. No big deal for us!
I would give a gift if I was in BP, but truly only what I could afford, and I'm sure the bride/groom would know that. Some people in our BP give a little, but they also spent money to come and stay in a hotel. I think the bride/groom need to take everything into consideration. You can't go to the poor house b/c you're in a wedding! Know what I mean, jellybean

I always give a gift, usually even more so because I'm in the bridal party!!!
The only time I wasn't that generous, was my oldest brother's wedding, but that's because I was fresh out of high school and making minimum wage.
