I am having such a hard time making a final decision about my bridal party. i feel like it's sooooo BIG! I have 7 girls that are definites (3 are family, 4 are friends) my problem is that i have 2 girlfriends who i'm not really THAT close with anymore, but i've been friends with them since elementary school and high school. I kinda feel like i Have to ask them. especially because 2 of the definites are 'newer' friends. so i feel like my 2 older friends would be offended that i'm having the other girls and them. does this make any sense??? with these two girls that would bring my bp up to 9!!!! i just don't know what to do. i don't want to offend anyone or hurt anyone's feelings. but i also don't want a ridiculously huge bp. help!

I know I am bound to get flack for this but - I personally think that if someone asks everyone and everyone to be a part of a bridal party, then there isn't as much honor. That is just my opinion.
No flack on this board!!!
I had a hard time as well - and wanted to make sure the most important people are there.
I don't care how big it is...but to be honest, I had the same issues. In the end, I waited for two and a half months and then made my decisions (and they ended up being EVERYONE!)
Thanks for the support
I got off very easy. My two sisters don't want to be bridesmaids as they are both close to 50 years old. One is a size 24 and one is a 2 and they will not feel comfy in the same dress. I do not like 'oh just pick the same color' type of bridal parties as I much prefer uniformity.
Had I chosen to put my sisters (and sister in law) in my bridal party, I'd also have to put in FH's two sisters and three friends and my neices. It would have been a total of about 10 ladies and I think that is total insanity especially when you come from a large family with very strong minded-women. Too many opinions can make the planning experience more stressful than enjoyable.
My sisters will be essential in planning my wedding as my mother is not in good health and cannot make many visits to vendors. One has knowledge of party planning (she is planning my nephew's Bar Mitzvah right now) and the other is an attorney with a lot of knowledge of contracts and finance. Without them, I'd be clueless.
I have also asked my bridal party to make sure they include my sisters and FH's sisters when considering a shower and/or bachelorette party. When my brother remarried, we 3 sisters weren't bridesmaids (thankfully) but we did contribute to the shower by making all decorations and favors. It worked out just fine for us and we felt as if we were just as important as any bridal party member.

I wouldn't worry about the bridal party being too big. You have to think of it this way...who do you want with you on such an important day? If you want your older friends to share it with you then you should ask them. If you're not that close with them then they should have no problem being guests at your wedding. In my opinion, if they do have a problem then they probably aren't the type of friends you want there on that day any way.

I had the same problem. I had 5 girls definate and 2 were newer friends that I have gotten very close too. I felt like I had to ask my friend that I grew up with b/c I was afraid she would get offended. It wasn't that I didn't want her in my wedding it was just that I didn't really want six girls. So anyway..I ended up asking her....I think you should do what you want and not worry about others..I should try taking my own advice!!!

thank you all so much for your input! since i wrote this yesterday, i've already caved in and asked one of the 'maybe's' I couldn't help myself. she called me to tell me she got engaged! and i just got so giddy and excited and we started talking about our weddings and i just asked her! LOL....so much for thinking about it! so, now i'm up to 8 girls!!! and my FI just told me he decided to ask another friend of his so he's up to 8 as well! this is getting crazy! so now i really feel like i have to ask the other maybe. that will bring it to 9! hey, any of you want to be in my wedding party too? why dont i just ask EVERYONE! lol
good for you have fun!! I would have asked everyone I know too (all my very best friends since elementary school!) but, I have so many neices and nephews that I didn't want to excluded them, and ask friends. ya know? I'm still confused...I'm having second thoughts now.

Re: Bridal Party - how big is too big???
alright so. can I ask a question?
They don't all have to have a partner do they? Can I have bridesmaids (who I know have boyfriends) w/o groomsmen? We don't have enough guys.
It was so much easier with just a MOH and BM. maybe I'll still do that. have to talk with FH........... my wheels are churning.
Thanks for the post. HAHAHAHA

We are having more GM than BM. We will either have the girls walk down by themselves and have the guys up front already or pair up two GM with 1 BM for a couple of groups. I couldn't imagine leaving people out just to have an even number.

Re: Bridal Party - how big is too big???
alright well, since this post I've changed my mind.
I now have 6 groomsmen, 2 ring bearers, 2 bridesmaids, 2 junior bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, and 2 maids of honor (both sisters)
Goodness, I added all my nephews & neices, all of his brothers...and another maid of honor because I've been feeling bad that I chose one sister and not the other.
Oh yeah, and my two best friends because I can't see getting married without them involved.
Guess I won't be saving on Limos and Flowers like I had originally planned. BUT everyone I love the most will play a part.
So, how big is too big? hahaha it's never too big.

Re: Bridal Party - how big is too big???
I struggled with this as well..I wanted to keep it small..however FMIL insisted all Fhs cousins be included...(I was ok with it cuz I had other girls that were special to me that I could ask)
so now I have:
MOH, 5 bm's 1 jr Bm 1 Flower girl
Best Man, 5 grooms man 2 jr grooms man 1 ring bearer
and once I find out if the baby is a boy or girl the FG or RB # will change...because of course he or she will be included....
for a total including ourselves:20 people... but its what works for me... I think its all personal preference

I have 1 Matron- 1 Maid of Honor, 2 Bridesmaids, 3 Flower girls, (2 are our daughters), 2 Junior ushers, and 1 Ring bearer. My Fi has 1 Best man and 1 Groomsman. I would like to ask more family. I wish he would just make up his mind and decide who he wants .

WOW your problem is EXACTLY what I'm going throught right now...7 girls...but three other girls that I'm not sure about - they are 'older' firends that I really don't see much and I have two 'newer' friends that I see almost every other day...our FH's are best friends...FH says to put them all in...I don't know if thats too big...I still have some time to think about it...
