bridal shower (long vent- sorry)

No. 1: I was over at my FILs' house and my FMIL whips out my bridal shower invitation and shows it to me and FH. FH screams 'it's supposed to be a surprise~!' Indeed, written across the top of the invite is 'SSHHH, it's a surprise'. FMIL says 'oh, I didn't know who was being surprised.'

When she said that I had to laugh plus I was kinda excited that I was getting a shower but at the same time kind of bummed that the surprise was ruined.

No. 2: I couldn't help but look at the invite because when I saw the color of it, I told FMIL 'it's not mine, those are not my wedding colors.'
But I looked at it and indeed it was for me. So I was really confused. My wedding colors are pink, brown and green. Everything from the invitations we made, to the programs, ring bearer pillow, CP, bouquets, BM dresses, etc. falls into my color scheme.

The bridal shower invites however, were dark red and gold and very simple.

I have 6 very artistic and creative BMs (think Martha Stewart) so I'm feeling a little bummed about the invites.

Don't get me wrong, I am THRILLED that they are throwing me a shower, truly I am, but I guess I wish I hadn't seen the invites beforehand.

Just relax and not worry about the invite. Just enjoy the day and thank your BM who have worked very hard on this surprise for you!

maybe your FMIL did that to throw you off because if your friends are as artsy as you say they are then why wouldn't they do the invites nicer?

maybe they gave her that invite because they knew she would say something..don't worry you'll still have a beautiful shower!

That stinks about the surprise... but I DEFINITELY wouldnt worry about the coloring of the invites. Dont sweat the small stuff!

I'm sorry the surprise was ruined.

But I wouldn't get upset over the invites. My colors were brown, gold and ivory. My mother sent out the invites for my shower and they were white and lavender. Did I care? Nope... was just happy to share my special day with my family and friends.

I did my sister's invites and they had nothing to do with her wedding colors, her favors did though. I don't think it's a big deal to be honest.

when we did my cousin's shower - her invites didn't match her wedding colors, i dont think it is necessary honestly since it is two different people planning the events. ..

as for the surprise - i am so sorry that happened to you but i had to laugh when she didnt know who the surprise was for. . .i mean who else could it have been a surprise for??? the guests??

some people. . ..

but seriously i am really sorry - try not to let it ruin this exciting time though!!

awww I am sorry to hear that your surprise was ruined... I wouldnt worry about the invites ~ as long as you have a good time with family & friends that is what matters! Don't be bummed!

People aren't going to notice the invites are not your wedding colors. To be honest, I don't ever notice invites to begin with - I am just looking at them for the info ...

maybe the color was meant to throw you off incase you happen to notice it laying around somewhere.. your FMIL had a MAJOR Brain Fart huh?

Don't worry about the colors... it will be great either way!

I don't want to sound rude, but here they are throwing you a shower, and your thinking about how the invites they sent out weren't what you wanted? If you really wanted everything to be part of your theme, you should have told your bridal party.

I can completely unerstand being disappointed that the suprise is ruined, mine was too. But as far as the invitations go, don't even give it a second thought. Your invitations don't need to coordinate with your wedding colors. I couldn't even begin to tell you what color my shower invites were. Trust me, if the bride doesn't remember, noone else will either.

this is exactly how i DIDN'T want to come off.
i am thrilled and grateful that they are throwing me a shower. the invites are not ALL i'm thinking about. i've been so anal about all my other aspects of wedding planning, i felt a little bummed about it being out of my control and not what i would have chosen.

and when we first talk about bridal showers, i DID tell them about my theme. i told them i've always dreamed of having a 'pretty in pink' theme shower (even before i got engaged).

sorry if i came off like some selfish bridezilla to you~!
